The world won't end, it will heal itself.

It will just continue without us.

Well, you have to look at the interest rates being so low too...if we were to hit another recession, the interest rates have almost no place to go before becoming negative (meaning any of you guys gaining a slight bit of interest on your savings currently could soon be paying that interest to the banks instead of them paying you).
If anyone was paying attention to Greece, that can easily happen here in the US as well. We aren't immune. And we owe alot of people alot of money.
Best advice I can give is be prepared, even if it never occurs.
Keep at least a few hundred dollars in a safe place in your home (at least a thousand would be better, but most of us don't have that sort of extra cash we can just keep laying around). If the banks close, you will not be able to use your debit or credit cards for gas or food - having cash will be the only way to pay for purchases.
Like I said, even if this never happens, this isn't bad advice for natural disasters as well - anyone that experienced Hurricane Sandy can tell you about not having power, which led to the inability to access funds. It is always a safe bet to keep some cash around, just in case.
