a bit more from sargons This Week in stupid:
And from a Russian viewer's view on this matter.
First of all, this embargo harms Russian citizens a lot. Turkey is 5th largest trade partner of Russia. We import a lot of food. The prices already doubled or tripled depending on the product, after introduction of sanctions due to Ukraine situation. We were cut off from our European suppliers. Add to that the little fact that our economy hangs on one single thing that is oil price (which hit a very low point recently) and you can see that Russia is in extremely difficult position right now. Cutting off Turkey? Yeah, that will hurt them. But it will hurt us a lot as well. Also, two biggest places for our tourists to go on holidays. Now both of those are closed. Also they were cheapest. There's literally nowhere else to go. At all. We also buy a lot of quality textiles from them. The only alternative of the same price range is chineese shit in shape of clothes.
Next, Russian bombings. The problem here is that targets for our bombers are provided by Assad and so we were bombing not only ISIS but other groups as well. Including Sirian turks. Turkey told us to stop bombings near their border on more than one occasion and they also shot down what they claim to be our drone. Our army guys ignored all the warnings. And now they are all surprised.
Also, Turkey does indeed buy ISIS oil dirt cheap and happily supports them because dirt cheap oil and their president does not like Assad. So yeah, that was not very unexpected when you really thought about it. Turkish embassies were vandalised in Moscow and few other cities and police did nothing to stop that. They just stood nearby and watched.
Turks occupy a significant portion of construction market. They are much better workers than majority of our own.
Not very significant but our football teams are royally fucked because they planned to train in Turkey during winter. No alternatives exist. And as a side note, the head of MVD recently openly declared that he finds it acceptable to infringe on the rights of an individual for the common good. And then added later that it is only acceptable in the interests of majority and against a minority
said there are close to 90,000 Turkish nationals working in Russia. Taking family members into account, that figure rises to 200,000.
Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said he does not want to harm relations with such an important trading partner
And a Russian military official also denied Turkey's claims it brought the plane down with two F16s on regular border patrols - saying it believed the bomber was shot down by artillery fire from the ground.
Putin has said the plane was attacked a kilometer inside Syrian territory, while Erdogan says it crashed in Turkey, injuring two people, after being in Turkish airspace for 17 seconds.
A military official, quoted by Turkey's Dogan news agency, said the plane was shot down by Turkish F16s, and that the pilots were given repeated prior warning.
In a statement, the Russian defence ministry confirmed the jet was one of its SU-24 bombers.
"I think if there is a party that needs to apologize, it is not us," he said from the Turkish capital. "Those who violated our airspace are the ones who need to apologize. Our pilots and our armed forces, they simply fulfilled their duties, which consisted of responding to ... violations of the rules of engagement. I think this is the essence."
In a meeting with community leaders in Ankara, Erdogan said, "If the same violation occurs today, Turkey has to react the same way."
