Disturbing, to say the least.
Indian police said Saturday five people have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a Japanese researcher near a famed Buddhist pilgrimage center.

The 22-year-old woman was allegedly kept captive for nearly three weeks in a village near the holy town of Bodh Gaya, about 130 km south of Patna, capital of Bihar state, officer Akhilesh Singh said.

Damn men thinking that they can force any women into sexual servitude....the misogynistic rape culture in India has gone on long enough. Unless I'm wrong. Am I? Been hearing tales of India's alleged mistreatment of women, especially in the rural part. Went as far as to have special cars for women I've heard.

For the worlds largest democracy India has a long way to go to correct backwards thinking among its populace. What a horrible thing to go through.

Not sure about the car thing, but yeah India has an issue with women over there. You definitely don't want to visit the country alone if you're a woman.

Just a side note on the men forcing women in sexual servitude thing... Given enough time and done right, you can break anyone down into doing what you want. That rape culture there makes other countries look tame though.

I think a lot of "cultures" in that part of the world have gone on long enough, personally.

I didn't mean literal servitude. I was just talking fancy to illustrate a point.

There's a lot of booksmart people who have no clue as to how the world works. This woman may have been one of them. I would like to hope that someone, at some point, told her that India is not a safe place to travel alone if you're a woman. I'd also like to hope she just didn't choose to shrug off that advice. I'm curious to know how she got to the point where she was just looking at random Buddhist temples, alone.

This seems to happen constantly, although this particular case is the most horrific. Geez, the guy who got her first was a tour guide. He did that on the job. That's absolutely insane and all of them deserve those 20 year sentences.
