Hello everyone,

I need your help to revolutionise the way sound effects are created and used in anime. I am in my final year at University and I intend to take a project which proves that anime can be improved if they would have the time and funds necessary to invest in sound, more specifically sound effects.
There is a tricky bit though, I do want to preserve the Japanese originality. I do not want to implement western styles and create a globalisation, a standard of how to use sound effects.
And this is where I need help. I need you or anyone you know to give me valid, academic information about how Japanese animation studios create and use their sound effects (I need books, journals, researches, courses... anything that can be referenced and taken into consideration for a dissertation).
The anime I plan to apply my "improved" sound effects is Psycho-Pass due to the fact that it is a sci-fi and its success. Any info about how Psycho-Pass ended up with their sound ?

If there is anything you know or can help with i would be very thankful because I believe that anime visuals are evolving and so sound is compelled to follow !

Let's do this guys !!!

Domo arigato gozaimasu !

P.S. e-mail me if you have info at [email protected]

You could check out /shirobako, which in addition to being generally a great show about the animation industry, has an episode that details the sound effects process (though it may not apply to all types of series and budgets).

That's a real niche, practical topic, though, so best of luck finding anything scholarly.
