Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series is the first. Then their are two movies Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. Not to be confused with the relaunch of the series in 4 parts. The new 4 movies 1.11, 2.22, 3.33, and 4.44 are essentially a retelling of the original series, with a new continuation to the series. That should clear it up for you.

D&R isn't really required, as the first half is just a retelling of the TV series, and the second of is a preview of End of Eva.

The only blu-ray version of the Evangelion TV series that's available is the ~$300 japanese import that contains no english subs. You'd have to try finding the tv series somewhere on DVD to buy. You can get the new Rebuild of Evangelion movies on blu-ray, but so far only 2 out of 4 have been released on DVD/Blu-Ray in the US (the 3rd comes out in Feb I think) and the 4th hasn't even been released in Japanese theaters yet. The End of Evangelion movie has been out of print for even longer than the TV series so that may be harder to find and more expensive.

Unless you're adamant about seeing all your anime legally I'd wait for a re-release before buying the TV series or EoE. They were both licensed in the US by companies that haven't been in business for a long time now, normal retail outlets don't have them anymore and on Amazon they've been scalped all to hell. I got my set a while ago for a tenth of what's being asked for it there now; if you're going to spend that much you may as well wait for the eventual blu-ray release.

The Rebuild films are licensed by Funimation so the first two are available, with the third coming out February 2016. The fourth hasn't been scheduled for theaters in Japan yet, not sure when it'll be out. But the Rebuilds deviate a lot from the original and aren't a replacement for watching it, they're their own thing. Whether they're an alternative retelling or a mindfuck sequel nobody knows for sure, if the fourth movie doesn't settle it either way it'll just be left to interpretation.

Watch the original TV series, then End of Evangelion. Everything else is unnecessary.

Order:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
End of Evangelion
Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone
Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance
Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo

Like others have said, Death & Rebirth isn't necessary. Everything in that movie is included in the series and End of Evangelion.

One thing to bear in mind: if you are looking for DVDs of the original series, get the Platinum edition ADV produced about 10 years ago. It's out of print, but I'm sure someone on eBay is selling it. Eva is notorious for having gone through a few releases, and these were the best masters I came across. Great A/V quality, good sub translations, and the extra Director's Cut episodes have something to offer.
