It's conceivable some moron that takes too much coffee would come to a doctor for their "condition" they experience sometimes...

Anything that gives the brain a buzz (chocolate, shopping, gambling or buying Blu-rays) can be addictive, and anything that takes away that supply of adrenaline/endorphins to the brain can be a withdrawal.
A hangover, for ex., is a temporary alcohol withdrawal, but just because it's not permanent doesn't mean it's not a pain to go through.

Again, the point is that the caffeine condition--a by-product of our Starbucks culture--is now diagnosable, and doctors have one more tool to help slap sense into high-pressure hypochondriacs with. Nothing for Peter Griffin to blow his brains out over.
(Oh, wait, let me guess, someone read the headline and thought, "Oh, so they'll be giving them disability checks for it now?"...Er, noooo, I don't recall the article saying that. )

Like others have said, the DSM is pretty broad. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

Well if you don't consider all the political correctness, huminatarian stuff, and down right decency to other people -- on a scientific, darwinistic PoV, being gay is a mental disorder yeah.

Why? Because it's a reproductive (mental?) disorder. And not mentally being able to reproduce is detrimental to a species.

Okay, let's try it again: A DISEASE and a DISORDER are two different things. A Disorder can be a temporary condition, but at least has an identifiable medical reason for being there. Cancer is a Disease, the flu is an Ailment, and tooth decay is a Disorder.

So is paranoia--Please relax, and dial down a bit from "Other people are loonies, so I'm locking my doors from all the crazy headlines!"

News to me..

I'm aware that caffeine addiction is a mental disorder, but withdrawal? That seems more physical in nature. Learn something new every day.

As someone who has tried (and failed) to quit caffeine many times, I can attest to it being a type of mental disorder, much like any other addiction out there.

While the headline-frustration didn't. Chill, people, they just put something in a medical book, put down that rifle.

That's not what this source tells me.

Wikipedia has quite a bit of sources attesting to this.

A core feature of abnormal psychology is that it must deviate from the norm. Since consuming large amounts of caffeine is a daily routine for millions of people I would call into question that it is abnormal . Unhealthy, yes, an addiction, yes, but commonplace, not abnormal.
