Just because someone is allowed to have an opinion doesn't mean I have to respect it.

"Be nice! Everyone is allowed to have their opinion!"

And I'm allowed to be an asshole, so what of it?

You're entitled to have one, but you're not entitled to force it on other people, and there's no requirement that others need to seriously consider your opinion.

So it's probably in everyone's best interests that you have reasonable opinions, or at least recognize if you're being unreasonable. You ought to believe what you do for reasons. The strength of your reasons is important as well.

If someone of bigoted then they are entitled to their opinion.
To them they are normal and it is your opinion that they are bigoted.
And if it's true then it sucks to be them because they can't legally be themselves.

People are entitled to their own opinion. However, it doesn't mean their opinion is correct.

Its an opinion. It can't be correct, nor can it be incorrect.

Apparently not because some people may not agree with it

When I say "you're entitled to your opinion", it's me copping out of an argument that I can't win, on a topic that my mind can't be changed on. If that doesn't work I'll resort to "Let's agree to disagree". If that doesn't work, then i say "I don't care what you think".

"Don't try to argue with idiots because they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience" quote - somebody.

Irishsushi wrote:What people are not entitled too is infringing on someone's right to be happy. There seems to be a big confusion that having an opinion means that you're allowed to force everyone else to live by your opinions, that is not the case.

Spot on! Of course we hit a grey area when, for example, someone's being bullied. Person A's happiness is being infringed upon by person B who is enjoying them-self thoroughly. So is it ok to infringe on person B's happiness with a blind-side fist to jaw? I say YES, if the average happiness of all parties involved is calculated to be overall more happy as a result of fist-to-face. But that's just my opinion... but when the situation arises, then it becomes my judgement. opinion+judgement=bad news for somebody.

ayaundwolf wrote:Yes, people are entitled to their opinions, but only to an extent. I think there are certain beliefs that most humans hold steadfast to. For example:

01: there is nothing wrong with murder
02: of course there is. not only is it illegal, it's unethical
01: that's your opinion

So yes, poster one is entitled to their opinion, but it isn't backed by the populace, and that doesn't give them freedom to act on it. LOL. Having used this an example, I actually googled a bit, and look what the first thing I found was. I think it's silly to use that retort in this context anyway.

LOL! An example of what your saying might be North Korea. No-one is entitled to an opinion there. entitled-to-your-opinion=free-speech. But that said, free speech can invoke consequences regardless of legal standpoint. eg Bob says to a men-must-die-femanist, "women should stay home, cook clean and raise kids". Consequence: Bob loses his ability to satisfy his stay-at-home wife and/or his ability to make kids. Entitled to his opinion? sure! wise to express it? Probably not.

People with opinions just go around bothering everyone else with them.

**off topic, ty @ayaundwold. i just leaned "url label" code :)

It can be illogical or baseless, can't it?

Everybody has the right to be wrong if they so wish. It may not make them a better person but we have to tolerate them. It's one of the most important parts of our free and democratic society that we have idiots so that we can understand their opinions and how wrong they are - also why they are wrong. It's only by understanding why their opinions are wrong that we can make our own.
