Some people seem to confuse "freedom of speech" with "freedom from consequences". You're allowed to say pretty much whatever you want, and I'm allowed to call you out on your bullshit.

Post your opinion cuz there's not a damned thing anyone can do to stop you.

But don't expect everyone to accept it. Thats where NGAF comes into play!

What do you think about the axiom, "they are entitled to their opinion"? I think it is a wise axiom to reign the zealous and the misguided. But in my opinion, I'd like to keep in mind that if their opinion is intolerant, and they're still entitled to it, are we not entitled to say why we think said opinion is bigoted and bull crap? It bothers me when people say this axiom as if to say "stop being so intolerant of opinion" when what I'm saying or typing currently is an opinion, although I concede it is useful to remind people every now and then lest the arguments get heated.

What do you think?

I think people are entitled to their opinion, however they should be aware of the consequences of expressing their opinions out loud. People have the right to their opinion but other people have the right not to agree with it.

The axiom was not meant to be used to silence those of differing opinion but to act as a way of gently letting everyone involved in the debate know that this is something we should agree to disagree on for now and to change the subject before things start to get ugly.

LOL! An example of what your saying might be North Korea. No-one is entitled to an opinion there. entitled-to-your-opinion=free-speech. But that said, free speech can invoke consequences regardless of legal standpoint. eg Bob says to a men-must-die-femanist, "women should stay home, cook clean and raise kids". Consequence: Bob loses his ability to satisfy his stay-at-home wife and/or his ability to make kids. Entitled to his opinion? sure! wise to express it? Probably not.

People with opinions just go around bothering everyone else with them.

**off topic, ty @ayaundwold. i just leaned "url label" code :)

Not a problem. I had quite the difficult time figuring out CR's BBCode. Typically a hyperlink would be represented with [ url= URL HERE ] TEXT HERE [ /url], but CR is quite a bit different.

Hm. I'm not sure that's what I was going for. I was simply trying to portray the difference between sharing your opinion and using the fact that it's an opinion to justify something. For example:

01: I think blue is a beautiful colour.
02: I've never really been fond of blue. I think green is much better.

This is a typical opinion, and something you can't really argue against. It's their opinion. But on the extreme side of things you may see a conversation like:

01: All men are pigs.
02: Men are worthy of just as much respect as women. They are not.
03: Well, that's your opinion.

So yes, you're right.

Entitled to his opinion? sure! wise to express it? Probably not.

I think that people use the "It's my opinion." as an excuse for malevolence far too often.

Everyone is free and entitled to their own opinion. Even if it is offensive, bigoted, or politically incorrect. In fact, historical court decisions have given special protection to offensive speech and opinions.

Personally, I say 'I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death for your right to say it'.

Disclaimer: do not ever take anything (ANYTHING) I post here or on FB seriously......ever.

Reflections from the California jihadi incident a few days ago that left 14 people dead:

ACT ONE: These two individuals possibly arrived here (US) with a rudimentary understanding of the English language. One day they took a road trip with the intent of robbing a facility that handled copious quantities of money. Casinos in or around Las Vegas, Nevada were target rich. These two had a general idea where LV was but got lost somewhere on I-15 beyond Barstow, CA. They went into an area truck stop and bought a state map. Intending to buy Nevada state highway map they got a California one in error and didn't realize their navigational or reading English error until returning to San Bernadino. Very frustrating, that. The guy mistook his workplace for a regional bank too (all buildings in the Basin sorta look alike). Irritated that he was in the wrong building (not even an ATM machine on hand) he and the missus took out their collective frustrations on 14 of his co-workers.

ACT TWO: After watching TV in a transfixed state during the manhunt I came away with the conclusion part of this must have been an ill-conceived cover up. The law enforcement personnel on board numbered in the dozens, possibly hundreds. On the surface it appeared Jihadi Jim & Jihadi Jane kicked over a hornet's nest as these inhabitants were really pissed and coming out in force. Oops, you two bastards are about to get yours.

Man, there was/were a lot of cops, cop cars in that county lining 1 of the main thoroughfares to I-10 not too far from where these 2 committed their crimes. The helicopter views showed 2 different command centers operating full throttle supervising men & material for 2 counties while in hot pursuit. Really....two command centers, isn't that overkill?

I really suspect someone dialed in an innocuous 9-1-1 distress call a reporting a separate incident that involved the alternate 2016 proposed Rose Bowl Parade route.

It seems Pasadena was concerned about random shootings along their established parade routes and gave notice that this parade was going to be cancelled. Pasadena did not want to have blood on their watch. The counties of Riverside--San Berdoo stepped in and volunteered to offer alternative 2016 parade access routes. This arrangement was to be agreed upon near term. The vendor that printed all the Free Parking permits authorizing law enforcement vehicles free parking in Riverside -- San Bernadino reported that the permits had been stolen.

Maybe it was an over-reaction; possibly not. The police and county mountie vehicles I saw from those aerial helicopter shots were lined up along 1 of the multi-lane thoroughfares.....I think these guys arrived at the scene early and had deliberately parked their cars claiming their anticipated rightful free area parking viewpoints with the motors running. Rumor has that each police vehicle has an individual petrol-DNA identifier. Any drop of oil residue found 1-3 months later can be traced back to the offending vehicle; thus ID-ing what officer gets to park where, for free. So, 1 command center was dedicated to ferreting out Jihadi Jim & Jihadi Jane while the other was handing over frikkin' free parking permits.

God, California, you're such a show. No wonder Hollywood is where it is AND what it is.

But then again, neither of these hypotheses may be anywhere near correct & I'm just possibly full of shit.
