You know, I made this thread to challenge hnrbledischarge on hisargument "she's entitled to her opinion" when a girl said she dislike men, but she hasn't answered yet.

I'm fine with people having their opinion and expressing it. I'm also fine with other disagreeing and expressing their disagreement. What I am not okay with (though I am sometimes guilty of doing myself) is when people tell other people that their opinions are wrong. Especially when you run across those who, every time someone disagrees with them, the person instantly refers to them as ignorant, uneducated, bigoted, etc. etc. Now there are times when an opinion is ignorant or bigoted but if saying "wow you are so ignorant" is the first thought that pops into your head then you probably use it way too much. People aren't generally ignorant, they simply disagree with you, get over yourself.

But if you're disagreeing then you are saying it is wrong. We wouldn't believe our opinions if there weren't a factual basis, whether anecdotal or otherwise. In this case I found the opinion bigoted, which can be done regardless of basis in reality, ala scientific racism and whatnot. I'm merely calling out people on their discriminating practices and expression my opinion on why its wrong. Especially when that person in question is much too young to harbor such prejudices in the first place.

Also, I contest the fact that people aren't generally ignorant. That's your opinion, and I merely disagree with you.

Well you're obviously an ignorant bigot who needs to pick up a book and read for once in your life you pea-brained monkey poop! Hmph *storms away*

*Comes back* On a more serious note.

Looking back I notice that what I said was somewhat of an oxymoron... Or defeats itself or whatever I'm trying to say idk. But anyways-

I'm okay with 2 people disagreeing over something scientific or factual. What I'm not okay with is people telling others that their personal subjective beliefs are wrong.

I think that makes more sense now... Kinda like your standard Anti-theist vs. (insert religious affiliation here) argument. The whole God is real! No he's not! Back-and-forth. Sure you may or may not believe God exists, but to tell someone who believes different than you that they are wrong is uncalled for.

As far as people being generally ignorant-

If you were to rate someones knowledge on a scale of 1-10 then say Mr. X was a 5. He may see anyone with a lower level of knowledge as being "ignorant" when they aren't. Stupid, yes (at least comparatively to Mr. X they are).

I have an issue with it more on a semantics basis than anything. And people call others "ignorant" so often that it is rather annoying. Gives me the impression that the person is very Self-righteous and has a large ego. Feel the same about people calling others "bigot".

Regarding "calling out people on their discriminating practices and expression my opinion on why its wrong"-

I don't really have an issue with someone doing that, as long as you don't go so far as to get emotional and begin insulting others because they think differently than you. Which I think is really what I'm trying to say. It's okay to disagree with someone, but there's no reason to insult someone regardless of the circumstances.

I feel like I was rather redundant but I didn't feel like I was getting my point across very well. Much longer than I intended it to be
