Hey all our Roku users out there, we're excited to announce that the latest version of Crunchyroll's Roku app is now LIVE and available!

In addition to a complete redesign, you can now sign up for a Premium membership directly in the app.

We've also changed the controls and user experience to be more streamlined with Roku's controls and hardware, and added more features to make your anime streaming experience on Roku even better!

Check out the screenshots below to see the new app, and don't forget to update!

You only needed one more screenshot showing the new/improved Genre selection capability. Much better than the old way.

Is a configurable upper resolution limit setting possible yet?

Edit: Bumping this thread because the old one was used in the /devices page and someone bumped that one instead...

You know, this is nice and all, but it would be really great if you guys would add Android TV support at some point so I can install Crunchyroll on my Sony 4K Smart TV (that is using Android TV for its "Smart" capabilities). I mean, I can always use the mobile app's somewhat recently added Google Cast support (that you guys call Chromecast support, showing you guys really have no idea what you're doing yet again, considering Chromecast is the name of one device that supports the service that is actually called Google Cast, the others being every Smart TV or streaming media box ever that is based on Android TV, as well as most Roku boxes), and I would settle for that for sure, except the video and audio quality both over Google Cast are atrocious. Running SD video and staticky audio on my 4K TV is unacceptable.

Which brings me to my next point. You guys really need to make an attempt at a non-obviously-halfassed implementation of Google Cast support at some point. Casting the mobile version of videos to an actual TV is kinda dumb.

Which brings me to my next point. Why is the video and audio quality turned down well below those of any other version on mobile? Are you guys not aware that many mobile devices have 1080p or 1440p displays (a handful even have 4K), and basically every mobile device ever is capable of HQ stereo sound, even if only through headphones?

Oh yeah, btw, your mobile app is garbage, through and through. Honestly, it would be better to try and load the website in a mobile browser than to try and use that horrible excuse for an app if not for the fact that the website is still using Flash for video which has been an obsolete way to do anything for ages to the point where basically every mobile browser ever no longer even supports it. And considering the website is totally not mobile friendly by any stretch of the imagination, that should speak volumes about how worthless the mobile app is.

I think you'll be happy...

It's back to the way the old player worked, complete with the little pictures. Pressing the left/right arrows only move one "notch" per press in the current vid, they no longer jump you all the way to the next (or previous) episode. FF/RW works as expected, once you start, you have to stop it.

Tears of joy. I loved those thumbnails to help me stop where I wanted to (and to skip OPs)

Did you discover whether or not there's a "turn autoplay off" setting yet?

I will say i don't like the new queue page the icons and blurb are too small i liked the last version with the larger icons. Also I'm sad that the info bar doesn't exist anymore.

Didn't find one yet, not for lack of trying. I did notice that with (at least the few I tried) very short eps, like Komori-san, it doesn't "end" quite correctly, but stays on a black screen where you have to push the back arrow. Autoplay is still in place similar to the way it was before for longer eps, and nothing is there in the app itself for any config settings whether limiting resolution or stopping AP.

Ah, well that's disappointing. It's a real nuisance because I mostly watch simulcasts close to when they are available, so it's more habit to just assume that when it finishes an episode it'll just stop. So I'll often get up to do something else during ED and previews. Thus, when I am watching shows which do have a next episode available, I'm always surprised, and often inconvenienced when instead of stopping it just keeps playing.

I can't really speak for the UI yet, because I haven't played around with it enough. And the app does take a little longer to load than the previous one did. But having a more Roku standard video player is pretty huge. RW/FF with thumbnails is going to be pretty incredible to be able to use again.

I was kind of hoping that these big changes would have inadvertantly fixed all those broken episodes in catalog titles prior to 2014 where the picture stops but audio keeps going on certain Roku devices (for example it happens on my Roku 1 and Roku 2, but not on my Roku 2 XD). But I just tested it out and unfortunately it hasn't.

So what is the quickest way to get to the next ep now that it's not the direction pad? Any shortcut beyond letting the auto play run?

I second this. Both need to be at least 2x bigger than they currently are. Also, how come pressing the (>>) button no longer takes me to the end of the queue? I found this really useful since it let me quickly get to my most recently added shows. The app is perfect besides these two things. I love the thumbnails when fast-forwarding and rewinding, and that I can look at all the shows in a particular genre. Thanks!

Edit: Another thing I noticed that's no longer there is seeing exactly how long your episode has been playing and how much time is left in minutes and seconds when you pause. It only shows minutes now. Any way this could be changed back?

Did you fix the fast-forward/rewind feature that has been requested for months to years? I'll check it out.
