Why do we ignore all the good things in the world and only shed light on the bad things?

People tend to respond more strongly to negative things. It's just how we are programmed to act.

who did that? NOT ME!

I typically ignore both.

Bad news is less boring, I guess. For instance, when you go and watch the 11 O'Clock News, you will see more of the horrible things than the lighter, more positive things. It sells.

Do I like it? No. but what can you do. It gets suffocating, I know.

Never have faith in humanity. That kind of faith leaves a person with no sense of contentment.

Faith is the proof of things wished for and the evidence of things that are not yet here. to have faith in something not here is to be content with the belief that it will be here some day. if you are discontent, don't blame it on what you put faith in, blame it on how much faith you really put into it.

Because, whether you believe it or not, the 'bad things' outweigh all the 'good things', and concerning ourselves with all these minuscule acts of kindness.

Why does the track "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley seem very appropriate for this thread?

I think (for whatever reason) we tend to be curious to all things morbid regardless of the media, an example is traffic accidents: Every one slows down to get a good look at the aftermath.

I guess it's just easier to see the bad than it is the good.

I think part if it is due to humanity's morbid curiosity. Like a train wreck where we don't want to watch but we can't look away. It leaves more of a lasting impression if it's horrible, and evokes more emotion. We like to know more about death because our curiosity wants us to, because the more we know the more we can try to avoid it ourselves. Because of this we watch the news more, and give the media more ratings, which causes the media to focus on death to a greater extent in a positive feedback loop.

In general, we fear death -> Media shows death -> Morbid curiosity makes us watch -> Fear death more -> media shows more death -> ... Etc.

Most people don't realize that news is a business, and it's very good at exploiting the average person.

(Disclaimer: I know there are exceptions in people and news programs.)

However, I'd like to hear other people's opinions on the matter!

The news is partly to blame. The other part is that bad news sells papers.. the papers are a business. Its always been this way for some reason.

media thrives on money and bad news makes more money I assume. Cop killings seem to be more popular than the lives cops save these days.

We all feed on tragedy. It's like blood to a vampire.
