Having a braid and wanting to be raised in a totally different way are completely different. IMO, parents should never simply pander to their child's wants. They have the responsibility of providing the best care for the child that they can reasonably provide. This includes disciplining the child and making sure he/she turn out to be respectable people. Children need to learn that they can't always get what they want and that they should make huge decisions not with haste, but with calm deliberation..

Many TG, including ex-Olympic athletes, would do well to benefit from that bit of self-parenting in adult years as well.

The lessons are easier to swallow when they come earlier. Kids learn and adapt more quickly than adults. I would rather have them make mistakes they can learn from while in school and at home than in the workplace when they are 35.

I'd be more worried about someone coming up to me and claiming to be my kid to be honest.

I would support them with all my might, but like others have said not let them have any operations of any sort before they hit at least eighteen. I would be totally okay, and even encourage 'hormone stoppers' if they did want to change their body appearance though. If they didn't then that is okay too. The most important thing is that I would be there for them and help them by supporting them in any way I could.

I think you missed the part where she said they have to be eighteen lol

But, yeah, hormone stoppers for a kid or someone in the middle of puberty is a bad idea.

And even if forbidding hormone blockers does doom future TG's to a life of looking like John Lithgow from "The World According to Garp" (or like Lady Gaga at best), it's still better than young straight girls taking hormone blockers as just part of being an Olympic gymnast.
What's blocked is that much harder to UN-block.

Well I haven't hear that before. Still, it would be better than taking the other kind of hormones that have irresistible effects, or have them start the switch before they are sure if you ask me -.-" I am not too well informed now since I am neither trans nor have a family member that is, but if I needed to know more on the subject I would go with a someone that knows about it. Then help my child and support them by doing whatever is the best way.

--> But yeah, you missed the 18 part dude! You where so eager to get in a discussion, you jumped that part... <--

But yeah bottom line is support with restrictions. I would want to help, but don't want to jump start them either in case they change their mind. The point is to help them after all -.-

Anything involving surgery, hormones, super special clothes... They'll pay with their OWN MONEY. I'm not a walking piggybank. Up until they're about twelve, they wouldn't pick out their own clothes (regardless of gender). I would discourage going into restrooms not of their own sex, too. Alot of criminals try and sneak into restrooms; I don't want them confused for such.

I've heard that taking hormone stoppers does stop puberty of the assigned sex, but it will proceed with no difficulties if one decides to stop taking hormone stoppers (at the point where the individual stopped puberty).

I'm talking about characteristics unique to each sex. I'm not talking about skin softness, height and other characteristics that both sexes have. And if you want to know, hormone stoppers can't be taken all the time. You need a supplement hormone (for male to female estrogen or progesteron and for female to male testosterone).

Damn 13? I think that is still too young to be altering your body permanently. Between 13 to 18, a teenager could end up changing preferences A LOT and then regret making life altering changes.
