I have yet to read your links , but I will say this . We are currently undergoing a long overdue polar shift , and scientists have no idea what to expect from it, or how long it will take. This could be said disaster. |

Humans, with today's knowledge are more equipped to face an ice age than anytime ever before. "Natural disasters" We don't really occupy that large space of the earth to be at any direct risk from natural disasters, maybe if you live on coasts, tsunamis may strike you, but that has always happened and people survive. We never perish all at a time. Those who die get replaced by other humans. One life is not important, realise that and your fear will disappear. Ok for starters, what if the Ice Age does come in 2012 and we are not ready for it, say it will blast out temperatures of -40 celcius, we would never survive that?? Secondly, with regards to the 'We never perish all at a time.' quote of yours, what about the Dinosuars, even though they are not humns even we could not survive a Meteor shower?? Just my thoughts... |

In this life we get only those things for which we hunt, for which we strive,...

If you are a geologist like me you'd know that the earth is in constant repair of itself. The rate at which it repairs itself is proportional to the rate it is damage. Of course people must help the earth recover and cut on their carbon outage. However, did you know that we are already at the point of no return? Yes, its too late now to repair the earth. However that is not the end for humans. Why? Because we are survivors. Instead of focusing our ideas on prevention of a world reset we should focus on how to survive that reset. FYI, after the world reaches the point of no return, when the natural balance of the elements and heat is way off. The world resets through various natural phenomena that are basically huge heat shifts and movements. But be safe, the new ice age is still decades off. _______ As for the second question u got. Humans are not dinosoars. We have brains, and we have a community. Because of that, we do not need evolution anymore. Instead we help each other survive. Dinosoars didn't do that. Dinorsoars did not become extinct. After the meteor shower came an ice age, and after that the species of dinosoars simply were not adequate enough to survive. so they rapidly evolved to meet the survival requirements of the new world. Weak things die, the strong survives. That is the rule of beasts. Humans have three main advantages. One, we are the most intellegent creatures in the world. Two, we have the most elaborate communities in the world. and three, we do not follow darwin's rules anymore. And if you recall your biology lessons, each living thing has one main purpose. One primal instinct. Which is to survive. How can this work with our species? Basicaly, since we can't physically evolve to survive. We have to change socially and mentally to do that. We do that by first creating the means to survival in the ice age (I got no clue what they may be. But the tools are available), and second by creating society rings that help its indivisuals and teaches them how to survive. With humans, the strong teaches the weak how to survive. |

I believe that the world will end but weither or not it will be on that day is to be seen. For my school newspaper someone actually wrote an article that describes all this, I never knew that both ancient China and the Mayans had both predicted for the same day before that article.
Anyway, I think that the world will end either because humans are too stupid and continue to destroy our planet or because the sun is but another star and one day it too will go out. That being the case there is not another star bright enough for our planet to live off from. Humans destroy our planet though by things like global warming and as it is now, the effects can never be repaired just delayed. |

Its true that we do have to die one day, but until it comes , i gueess majority of us at least will be stuck in our mundane human schedules. Hopefully someone up there in the government / nasa/ UN can help avert disaster for a few yeas/decades at least.

i think it could end but most likely will not. i think i heard about this two years ago and it is pretty interesting stuff. i am waiting for that day just so i can experience it but it is a bit scary.

I've actually discuessed this topic in school with my friends and a couple of people in my class. What most of us seem to believe is that the 'world' physically won't end. Like, no explosions, etc. It is our opinion that humanity or life as we know it will end, and we'll experience changes on our Earth that are so different from previous times that it will be like that 'period' died. Opinions? This is an interesting topic.

^ The world isn't the problem here. Earth can recover. The problem is that the organisms living on this planet will face the problems of those disasters.

The Mayan civilization does mark it as the end of the calendar, but it does not mean that 2012 is the time in which the world ends. They meant that the world will be reborn.
