doesnt stuff like this get made up like every 2 years?
and when it doesnt happen, people who believed it just find some excuse. idk, i guess i just dont believe it. I'd like to think that the only way that humanity would ever blow up, for lack of better words, would be brought on by ourselves. not some ancient calander or whatever it is. |

from an article i read on myspace The Mayan Calendars comprehension of time, seasons, and cycles has proven itself to be vast and sophisticated. The Maya understand 17 different calendars, some of them charting time accurately over a span of more than ten million years. The calendar that has steadily drawn global attention since 1987 is called the Tzolk'in or Cholq'ij. Devised ages ago and based on the cycle of the Pleiades, it is still held as sacred. With the indigenous calendars, native people have kept track of important turning points in history. For example, the day keepers who study the calendars identified an important day in the year One Reed, Ce Acatal, as it was called by the Mexicans. That was the day when an important ancestor was prophesied to return, "coming like a butterfly." In the western calendar, the One Reed date correlates to Easter Sunday, April 21, 1519 the day that Hernando Cortez and his fleet of 11 Spanish galleons arrived from the East at what is today called Vera Cruz, Mexico. When the Spanish ships came toward shore, native people were waiting and watching to see how it would go. The billowing sails of the ships did indeed remind the scouts of butterflies skimming the ocean surface. In this manner was a new era initiated, an era they had anticipated through their calendars. The Maya termed the new era the Nine Bolomtikus, or nine Hells of 52 years each. As the nine cycles unfolded, land and freedom were taken from the native people. Disease and disrespect dominated. What began with the arrival of Cortez, lasted until August 16, 1987 - a date many people recall as Harmonic Convergence. Millions of people took advantage of that date to make ceremony in sacred sites, praying for a smooth transition to a new era, the World of the Fifth Sun. From that 1987 date until now, Mr. Barrios says, we have been in a time when the right arm of the materialistic world is disappearing, slowly but inexorably. We are at the cusp of the era when peace begins, and people live in harmony with Mother Earth. We are no longer in the World of the Fourth Sun, but we are not yet in the World of the Fifth Sun. This is the time in-between, the time of transition. As we pass through transition there is a colossal, global convergence of environmental destruction, social chaos, war, and ongoing Earth changes. All this, Mr. Barrios says, was foreseen via the simple, spiral mathematics of the Mayan calendars. "It will change," Mr. Barrios observes. "Everything will change." He said Mayan Daykeepers view the Dec. 21, 2012 date as a rebirth, the start of the World of the Fifth Sun. It will be the start of a new era resulting from and signified by the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator, and the earth aligning itself with the center of the galaxy. i view this whole 2012 thing the same way i view other "end of the world myths." oddly, those myths never prophecize the end of the world, only a great change that leads to a time of unrivaled peace and abundance. Armageddon is a great battle which in the end takes us to 1000 years of peace. Ragnarok is a great battle that destroys everything in yggdrasil (the universe, essentially) but from the ashes a new world of abundance is made for the last humans and gods to repopulate Kali Yuga (hindu maybe?) is the "dark" times, or times of strife and discord, and the end is the darkest part, but then the cycle restarts and we go back to Satya Yuga, a time free of any unhappiness. zoroastrianism traditions say that a great battle will occur between their lord "Saoshyant" and the destructive will of god named "Angra Mainyu." when the battle ends, the wicked suffer for 3 days and are then led to paradise with all the righteous. i believe the same for this 2012 theory, if its real at all. |

Actually there's a book by Graham Hancock that supports this. Or at least gives a good foothold into studying this topic. In Footprints of the Gods, I think it is, he covers several subjects, ranging from the Mayan Calendar, (and Mayan religious beliefs), to the Great Pyramids. Well, after reading his section on the Mayans, he has a lot of references. You trace those down, and you can will find older books. As it happens, the world has much bigger cycles much like the seasons. These cycles are usually very destructive and world changing. I forget how many thousands of years it happens, but the world has gone through four of these catacysmic changes, with one due about 2012. I don't think it will be the end of the world. Just the end of the world as we know it. Maybe it's time that the Gods put things back to right, change the world to the way it should be. Humans have been overstepping their boundaries, and destroying what was originally GOD's work. (It's been so long since i studied this topic, I wish i had all of the books to point to as my references.) However, it's creepy that the world has undergone 4 massively altering changes, and these changes coincide with so much mythology. Maybe there's a basis??

SenbonzakuraMaster wrote: If the poles shift actually means that the outer core of the planet will either rapidly or slowly move. Scientist have been anticipating a large disaster for a while. Its not something of surprise. But for the Mayans to have an actual date, that happens to be so fuckin close scares people. Thats probably why they chose not to make this thing public. If you think worrying about global warming coming first then your fuckin wrong. I forgot the shifts timing but I think its every 450,800 years. Another source is the Web Bots that seems to be relatively correct. [edit] I think we could afford to lose 1 billion human beings. Makes it easier on us I guess  All I have to say is go kill yourself, you said yourself we could afford to lose 1 billion human beings. |
