I don't think it can currently be influenced on the user end. It's already being looked into. As it seems to be fairly random as to who is affected (except for the TCL TV and NowTV Box users) it might take some time to fix.

My Roku-1 is still not working. But I found my Roku Classic and set it up; it works fine.

So I'll use the Roku Classic to finish the shows that I started watching. When I finish them, I'll make a decision whether to continue watching Crunchyroll, or to cancel my membership and switch to one of the other streaming sites.

Same issue here with a roku 1. It's the only way I watch crunchyroll videos. At least now I know it's not my fault. I'll definitely be contacting crunchyroll and asking for a refund on the month I've been unable to use it.

edit: After reading how several people got theirs to work I dug a little deeper. I had tried changing the settings on here to 1080--what I knew my tv to be. That didn't work, so I deleted the app off my Roku and deactivated it from my account. Then I wondered if my roku itself had settings for dpi, and it turns out it does, and we had it set to 3:4 I guess the crunchyroll roku update requires everything to be on the same setting, as when I reactivated and linked everything back up that worked. It's the only app that gave me this issue, and even then only after their update.

So if your roku is giving you the unexpected error make sure that your account, roku, and tv all have the same video settings. And the forum moderator should add that to the troubleshooting thing they have stickied to the top.

To clarify: Are you guys only seeing certain videos not load? For example, Lupin the 3rd Part 4's second episode never loads but the first one does? Or is it all videos? If the former, at least I know it's not just me (although that's little solace). If the latter, my condolences and it's disheartening to know it might get even worse.

I was having the problem on one of my 4 Roku's (My Roku 2). But it apparently resolved itself at some point last week.

I've had a similar problem. I'm using a roku lt it will load the episode but about 10 minutes into a show it will start to act like a dvd skipping then it causes my roku to restart, then after it restarts I can watch the rest of the episode. It has only been doing this since the last update

I've been having this same problem for at least the last four days (Roku 2). I get that same error message with every video I try.

I tried all the same things as beccapunkin13 mentioned but no joy.

Yup, i haven't been able to watch anything on crunchyroll via my roku 1 (the 2710x one) for going on 2 months now. Customer service was very quick to get back to me after I emailed, but only to say they'd help me troubleshoot. Never gave any further instructions/info. I emailed back to thank them for not giving me a canned response and ask about next steps or solutions and haven't heard back since. I've tried everything mentioned previously. This really sucks. Can't watch anime on my laptop when I'm working on it.

Ok, I finally got my Roku 1 to work with Crunchyroll using the fix that people have been suggesting.

I connected my Roku 1 to my TV using the HDMI cable, and then under settings/display I set it to 1080p. Sure enough, I can play videos just like everyone said.

But here's the thing: my TV has only one HDMI port, and I want that hooked to my BluRay player, so I reconnected the Roku with the composite cables. The settings are still set to 1080p, and I can still watch videos.

For people who have old TVs with no HDMI port: I powered down (unplugged) my Roku, then powered it back up. The settings were not lost: I can still watch videos. So it may be possible for you to take your Roku to another TV (even maybe a friend's house) and fix the settings there with a HDMI cable and then bring it back home and use the composite cable.

The only caveat is that I haven't watched an episode all the way through yet; I only made sure that the episodes will start.

Also, I didn't check out the settings before I plugged in the HDMI cable, so it's possible that Roku made an upgrade that allows to change the display setting even with the composite cable. Anyway, I'll be checking to see if this works for anyone else as well.

A 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 HDMI switch is about ~3 dollars on Amazon. That should also work for you and you don't have to put up with low res playback through RCA.
