For scientific purposes, (in fact I was just being curious), I decided to spend four months without watching anime. I thought it would help me focus at school, and on other things like life, but as I later found I was sadly mistaken. You know people, the worst part about getting sick is not knowing that you're getting sick. I started to become so negative without even realizing it. My grades collapsed. I did not care about my friends anymore, and I realized how boring other shows actually are. It's only at the end of the semester, to congratulate myself for hanging out till then, I watched a new slice of anime, and after watching the first episode, I started to cry because it felt like I was reunited with a very old friend. The kind of friend that grew up with you. (PS: new, and looking for friends so check my profile)

Due to very time consuming activities, I basically had to do this as well, but the outcome was almost the opposite. All I can bother watching now is the really big shows that I've loved forever like Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon, Fairy Tail, etc. I have no motivation to watch much anime anymore and get bored to death when I try.

Perhaps it's just because I can't find a show that interests me, but I can't factor out that every anime season releases a load of the same slice of life anime we see every season. I'd love to try and get back into anime but as of right now, I'm hella enjoying life with the lack of it...

Let me tell ya, anime saved me from deep depression.
Them slice of lifes are like chicken soup for your godly soul.
If you can, just limit yourself to them. Enjoy an episode a day, or if it helps, reward yoour studying or completed assignments with an episode.
I find that it helps me keep track with my studies, and doesnt deprive me from my anime (: goodluck!

You see, to me it's the total opposite. i first started to watch like you said, the main ones, but then I started to experience the other ones, and fell in love with slice of life and psychological. Now, I watch the main ones once in while, and my favorite among them is one piece because it emphasizes so much on friendship.

I would die without anime...

You should NEVER abstain from anime. Never. Again. I don't know how you even survived. Anime, manga, certain TV shows, and books seem to be the only things holding me up. Anime especially.

Don't take what I say too seriously, but if you're reliant on anime, something might be wrong.

Well, human are all dependent on all sort of things to keep going about their life, you just need to pay attention to your everyday actions and you'll notice a consistent pattern. Being addict to something as mind opening as anime is not a bad thing at all. I used to smoke cigarettes before and that was the bad thing. I'm surprised most people find it acceptable to be addict to those kind of things such as coffee and cigarettes but not anime.
