Post Reply Muslim group asks that food shelves provide Halal option

In my state you get a card and buy what you want with it. Minnesota has a similar program called SNAP.

This seems to be about providing halal (kosher) options at local food banks. It has little to do with welfare. They aren't demanding anything, and they don't want to change the existing options. They just want an added shelf for halal foods. They are citizens and have a right to lobby for their interests, just like the rest of us.

It's a very misleading article that is made more clear if you take the time to watch the video it references.

Just watched the video too. What glorious bait guys.

Halal food costs more. I don't want to pay for it. Sorry, go back home.

Hey guys, is it just me or does that site look like a blog? Not a whole lot of designing came through it, too simplistic, and radical amounts of bias.

I've seen blogs that have a whole lot more design than this did. Also come to think of it, what news site isn't biased these days.

Was just gonna tell OP to check his sources. There's clickbait all over the front page.

This is a badly organized blog called US World Report (not to be confused with the reputable and highly credible U.S. News & World Report).

can't they, like, choose which food to get with their food stamp..?
unless they are trying to force everyone to eat whatever they deem "appropriate" for their religion, in which case that's BS

you can, its basically like a credit card, you go to a store and buy food with it, with the money that is on it, so this is bullshit what they are doing

edit: saw the other comments after I posted
unless its fake , is it?

Probably. I'm at work and can't really check sources.

Fair enough.

Why is that? Is it because they don't have rich politicians and corporate slobs funding them or is it because you just don't agree with them? Lets forget about the obvious liberal bias that ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and most major newspapers have displayed for the last 50 years that you choose to ignore. Welcome to the internet where people are free to express themselves (for now) without being rich or attending liberal run journalist schools. Your opinion is not the only opinion.

Well I'm not American nor do I use anything like food stamps but from my understanding don't you go to a store that accepts them and pay for your food with said food stamps?

If this is similar to a food bank where you're given a piece of paper from the government that shows how many are in your household, age, and the amount you are aloud [at least that's how it works in Canada] then you don't have much of a choice since 90% of the food is donated. I know a few people who have to go to the food bank in my town, you're given some necessities like milk that the food bank buys with donated money, but most items are donated and then depending on your household you can pick a few 'luxury' items [cookies, deodorant, snack cakes] but you can't order certain brands and types of food. If someone donated a halal food item lucky you, if they donated peanut butter, you get peanut butter.

If it's in an area where a lot of practicing Muslims are on food stamps, maybe the local mosque could open up their own food bank, but over all, sadly you get what's donated. My family was poor, and I grew up getting hand me downs from cousins. When in need, if it fits you take it. Heck, many people need donations of baby food but not many people donate that either. Not a lot of kosher donations I don't think. Personally I'm not mad, but you should probably reevaluate the system, it could be as simple as allowing certain foods to be available, or perhaps [as mentioned above] mosques and local Muslim organizations could step in and lend a hand. Demanding people give more is wrong, but people fall on hard times, even those who can't eat certain foods [be it religious or allergy] at least hear them out and IF something can be done, why not?

I don't know why, but I laughed at this after I saw he was banned.
