Why is everyone on the internet so pissy?

To be honest, even I am sometimes.

I'm talking about the people who go around picking fights on the internet. Like someone will say something that is intended to mean no harm, and people will say something rude in response, either for no reason, or a stupid reason.

So what's your opinion? Why do you think everyone on the internet is so angry?

Cause the internet offers people a platform of human interaction with little to no IRL consequences.

That being said I think that this is not an excuse or a good thing. There is a huge lack of empathy on the web we need to solve.

The internet is where we reveal our true selves, where we declare war against every comment or viewpoint we deem immoral, unjust, or sickening. We don't really see our fellow posters as humans, or even beings behind a screen. No, no, we're merely antagonists to be wiped out, storm trooper to be killed, scum to be corrected in a stern manner. It's natural to be angry at the unjust, the ignorant, and the stupid in life, but we withhold our tongue due to fear of repercussion. Eliminate that and well....you have the internet.

People act according to their mood.
They probably had a bad day, and the internet is a good place for them to vent their frustrations without setbacks or consequences.

In other words, they're a bunch of cowards with anger management issues.

By the way, arguments on the Internet are like a rite of passage for some. You don't get respected until you get flamed to hell by the veterans and then they welcome you into the circle.... Nah, I'm just kidding.

I hardly doubt anyone is overly serious, the arguments are just knee jerk reactions, like a stranger saying your ass is nice and you just thank them. You didn't think about it. It was just a knee jerk response.

Also, NHK quote.

"It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. Isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation."

People are more honest online.

I love it.

I don't have to deal with social cues and hidden meanings and shit. It's just what is written and deciphering that is so much easier.

My temper is a bit less volatile online, actually. Nonetheless, what gets on my nerves online sparks a similar reaction offline.

People get angry irl. There is no reason they can't get angry on the internet.

You get to reinvent yourself on the internet to be some strong, capable thing when perhaps in reality you arew disabled and in a wheelchair and 350 lbs. Naturally this power then goes to ur head and causes the unpleasant behavior you see on the internet.

Because there's no consequence; only reason people are nice to you in the first place generally is to get something they want so starting off negative will lower chances of getting this certain something in the event you do want something from that person.

Many people are just venting, especially if they had a bad day or if their life sucks and they have no one else to complain to.

I generally respond online the same way I would in real life, which may very well be mean, angry, or cruel. But I don't care, since I'm always like that.
