First of all if someone I was with asked me to promise not to eat them even though they knew that would likley be the only way i would survive well... thats just kind of a dick move. If I was going to die and my body could help my friend live I'd probably let them eat it and im a really vain person too. Anyways, I would never promise someone that in the first place because in my mind i come first over a corpse. I 'd do whatever it takes to survive.

Point is that he did in fact promise not to eat his friend. When you give your word it is a binding thing, if it ain't you are less then the dirt you're standing on.

Wow, I'm not going trekking with you people! As soon as the snacks run out, your glutenous eyes will turn to my succulent meatiness.

Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that he actually ate the guy. He says he tossed his corpse overboard. On first read I assumed it was a proper fishing vessel, but now I'm getting the idea that it was just a small boat. Gah, what a situation. I'd still do everything I could to give him a proper burial (at sea) but i suppose he didn't have the means, he couldn't even cook his fish. Far-out, i suppose i would throw him over too... but i'd hate it, just sending him off to feed the fish. Whether or not that dude ate him, he got eaten.

What is this "your word is a binding thing" "it's the connection between heaven and earth". Come on now. Do we live in reality or an anime world? I get that we are anime fans but that doesn't mean we have to pretend we have any kind dignity. We are only human and our instincts will kick in whether you like it or not.

I would do anything to survive and that includes lying to my dying friend. "don't eat me after I die, bro" "ah yeah sure man whatever you say" *nom nom* Free Meal. What a good friend he just assisted in saving me. Instead of me having to spend time hunting down food it fell right in front of me and now I can spend time escaping with the new energy I have obtained. No matter how little.

Wait so dude promised not to eat other dude..and did anyway. I'm sorry you're automatic scum in my books and deserve to be shot. Not for the cannibalism but for going against your own word not to do it. Those who break their word don't deserve life in my opinion. Honour is more important then life.

i get the thing about honor, but not deserving life if you break your word even once? that seems a little extreme.

Call me old fashioned but I rather do believe when you give your word you give your life with it. It's why I rarely promise anybody anything.

Yeah I would be sad, if it was a friend but got to survive of course if they asked me not to eat them I would probably argue with them about it because come on, not much of a friend if you would rather your ''friend'' die of starvation rather then eat your dead body. Not going to make a promise like that.

what the hell is wrong with that guys parents? You cant sue somebody for eating your son with out proof.
and can you image how the guy is feeling? such a shit situation.

If my friend told me not to eat him I guess I wouldn't. At least I'd try not to. I've tried to go for as long as I could without eating before, and the pain gets to a point that you're kind of like a zombie, just only thinking of your hunger and wanting to eat anything on impulse right away.

They're suing because they think he "may have."

Lol...

Weak case aside, I'd do whatever the hell it takes. I don't give many shits about the laws or morality in general. What makes you think I'll care when nothing is around to punish me for it? Fuck that other guy. He's bait. I won't eat him, but I sure as hell won't be worried about his ass.

I would not eat another person. I have standards. I know how to fish and search for food. Build a shelter. The only problem I would have is making fire. If I can find flirt/chert I would be fine.

Don't think I could actually eat another person. I'd rather go looking for food.

If you're gonna eat someone, don't eat the brain unless it's an absolute life/death situation. Prions can mess you up in the long run and lead to the kuru disease. Also avoid kidneys and the liver, as well as eyes. But don't eat other people without their consent, that's rule #1. Even if they're already dead.

Don't forget that this guy was stranded at sea, where stuff like fire/clean water/food would be much harder to come by. I'm sure cannibalism wasn't his first resort.

I mean, no, I don't want to think about having to do the craziest things to get by. But yes, I'm sure if I'm stuck somewhere and starving like a motha... and there's a rotting corpse nearby, I'm saying grace.
