I need suggestions for these topics. I like good art and a good main character. My favorite anime is Code Geass (which is odd because I usually hate mecha) followed closely by Tokyo Ghoul.

Here are the anime I have watched:

Good art, good characters & fights? Try the following - and a warning, they're all older series from the late 90s/early 2000s:
Cowboy Bebop - Space western about bounty hunters. Good action sequences including some great space-craft dogfights, great characters.
Trigun - Another sci-fi western, this time about a man who will not kill, but is the greatest marksman in the world. There's more to the story than that, but that's how you meet Vash the Stampede in Episode 1 & I don't want to ruin it. I loved it. Some of the fight scenes are a little over the top, but the characters are great, I liked the art.
Noir - This will be an odd choice - it's about two female assassins. One who's a reputable assassin in the underworld, the other is a girl who knows nothing about her past. Lots of great gunfights, pretty artwork, and interesting character development. Also, one of my favorite quiet assassin characters is in this series - Chloe who is ridiculously skilled with knives.

Looking to "get hit right in the feels" as the youngsters call it? Try the following:
Your Lie in April - A series about a pianist who is overcoming grief of his (at times abusive) mother's death through his friends, music, and love. My summary doesn't do it justice, it's an excellent series.
Nameko Families - People will scoff at this, and I get it, but it's a short form series with no dialogue about anthropomorphic mushrooms. At it's surface, it's just silly shorts, but the more I focused in on what was going on, it was such a great example of just...family. There were many poignant moments which I'm sure others didn't find as well done as I did, but I really liked this series. And hey, it's super short - so if you hate it, you're not out that much time

Let me know if you end up watching any of them!

I swore it said 4/12.

I like Trigun, but the fact that Vash does not kill conflicts with my morals of the greater good, much like Monster, where people's lives are lost or jeopardized because Vash does not kill. I mean seriously. If we did this in a modern anime people would complain. Perhaps I'm missing the point here, but as a person who believes killing is somewhat justified, even in an atypical cases of "self defense" and acts which could potentially save lives (Killing a super powered plant being and his legion before they do more harm), I find it irritating. I've watched quite a bit of coming of age stories where the protag kills someone, and grows up realizing that such sacrifices are perhaps necessary to the fulfillment of his goals, but here we have this trashy idealism that would never work in real life. That being said, I liked the ending.

Badass

Gurren Lagann - The most EPIC anime ever made. Its mecha, but even people who hate mecha love this show.

Feels

SCHOOL-LIVE! - While the art looks like a moe slice of life comedy (and there are elements of it in the show) it is most definitely horror (creepy disturbing kind, not gory). You will get hit with the full range of emotion with this show. If you try it, watch ALL of the first episode.
