80 racists go on a rage and people start proclaiming world war 3.

.... yeah. Well I am sure people with a mindset similar to that of those 80 will one day bring about ww3 indeed.

Okay that's in my country.. but Geldermalsen.. who even lives there, never even heard of that before.
What I'm trying to say is, it's a small town and media/people blow it waay out of proportion as per usual.

Anyway, I second what George said.

Well, many of them do show a high level of xenophobia.

I guess a less aggressive term would be xenophobic. (though maybe not, forgive me english is not my native language)
Albeit I am pretty sure the vast majority of the people that seriously go out to the street to riot about plans to help refugees are more than "just" xenophobic. At least here in Germany some political parties (see "AfD") whose leaders make very clear racist statements, gain support from exactly the same kind of people.
For example recently one of them held a speech were he was using biological terms to describe perceived different behavior between Africans and Europeans. Biological terms typically only used to describe different species.

So yeah while "just being against accepting refugees" is not per se racist, you can have other reasons, in reality racism is a large large part of it in most cases, that much I am sure of. The people in question might not even have realize that. It's worrying to see. Many of them don't actually like the idea of being racist, so it's important to point it out that their behavior starts to look like.

Here in Germany the AfD constantly goes on about stuff like "all those criminal refugees will push up the crime rates". Well the crime rates have gone up in some areas indeed. To be precise attacks on refugees. Hundreds of burning refugee housings in the last year, certainly something to be ashamed of.
Crime rates among refugees on the other hand are statistically not different from crime rates among average Germans.

I don't see the problem though. Being against a swarm of people, with a different culture who don't even read/write English, so a good majority of them won't and don't even have jobs, so the taxpayers must pay for their accommodation and welfare. Then there are other things such as leaving places where they go in complete shitholes, rubbish everywhere, rapes that have occurred but doesn't get much media coverage, and the majority of these so called people in distress running from danger are men, they're no benefit and we don't need them.

Handful of people?

You must have some scary looking hands.

The Netherlands alone is host to 17 million people, Europe is home to over 700 million.
There were about 80 people rioting, of those roughly 15 were identified as the instigators and arrested. So yes, a hand full of people.

Europe is not on fire, there aren't any mass riots happening and even Geldermalsen city hall should have been cleaned up by now.
To sum up my personal thoughts on the situation:

Only 80?

Over 2,000 people reportedly joined the violent protest in Geldermalsen, a Dutch town of 27,000, in what has been the biggest display of anti-immigrant feeling in the Netherlands since the attack on a Syrian refugee center in October

About 2,000 people joined the protests from the municipality of 27,000, 27 km (17 miles) from Utrecht, Dutch national broadcaster NOS reports.

Thousands riot in small Dutch town over plan for asylum-seeker centre
More than 2,000 residents of the small town of Geldermalsen take to the streets tearing down fences and chanting anti-immigrant slogans

Those are reports from the BBC, Guardian and newsweek.

Then you hit the Dutch news.

Police sealed off the town hall where the debate on the plans was taking place with fencing, but protesters, said to number about 100, pelted the building with bottles, bricks and fireworks. Several windows were smashed.

Between 70 and 80 people were involved in tearing down fences and pelting the building with bricks and fireworks. The council meeting was abandoned.

So between 80 and 2,000 people rioted, the police showed up in 15 party vans, and took in 14.

2000 people protested. Of those 80 people rioted. Of those 14 people identified as the instigators were arrested.

This all happened 2 nights ago, ending the same evening it began, leaving a mess in only one location of a small town of a small country, the location is cleaned up and business is back to as usual.
Yes, all is well.

If you want to have a big riot to compare, one that actually left a dent, look for the London riots in 2011.

the police showed up in 15 party vans

That's roughly the same as they bring to an average high profile football match.

Then maybe you should shut up while you're still ahead?

Been to Europe several times. I read British and Spanish (El País, to be exact) news daily. Please, tell me more about European views regarding immigration.

Americans didn't overreact with 9/11; Thousands of people lost their lives that day. Just because you don't remember the attack doesn't mean it wasn't serious.

Eh i have friends from England. They keep me informed. maybe you just havent been to the bad parts? maybe they talk shit, eh. perhaps i just misjudged you.
EDIT: oh and i work with Russians, and Serbs and know Polish people and German people but yeah i haven't been to them places myself i admit.

But Parts of Euroupe are extremely multi cultural so i figured your comment was from someone who thought other wsie i guess.

There are refugees coming to Norway... but i haven't heard anything about riots here...
although I suppose the government is more opposed to them coming here now because the conservatives are in charge.
