Hey all - I recently started a Nuzlocke challenge on Pokemon Gold (original for GBC). Wondering if anyone else has done that before with any of the Pokemon games? If so, how did it go?

Let's talk about our triumphs and our failures.

For those who don't know, a Nuzlocke run is one in which you are playing the game with self-imposed rules, specifically the following two:
1. You can ONLY catch the first Pokemon you meet on each route.
2. When your Pokemon faints, you have to release them. If you run out of Pokemon, you lose - GAME OVER.

That's it. I also added in a rule for myself where I have to name every Pokemon I catch.

So far, here's what's happened for me:
I started with Totodile named Wani and when I finally received Pokeballs, I caught the first guy I found on Route 29 - a level 3 Sentret. What happened next? He fainted against another level 3 Sentret. Each round he tackled first, it was an even match - each of them swinging at each other with mine going first. Until round 3. The enemy Sentret swung first, causing my Sentret Jackalope to faint. Had to let him go...

I now caught a level 2 Pidgey who I named Bert, named after the Sesame Street character of the same name who's obsessed with pigeons. We'll see how it goes...

What about you? Have you done a Nuzlocke run? What game did you do it on? Did you succeed or have an epic failure? Let's talk about it!

I tend to do at least one nuzlocke run every game I get. For me personally, Platinum was the most difficult one to nuzlocke. A combination of distortion world Cyrus (Gyarados with EQ..), movesets from trainers, Cynthia and trying to grind on Iron Island (EQ & Explosion galore!) made this game the most difficult one for me to nuzlocke.
So far I have completed all games as nuzlocke, however, some took me multiple attempts. Platinum took me the most attempts with 3 attempts before succeeding. (According to other people I've spoken to 3 attempts ain't a lot at all.. I'm just glad I didn't need more tries on Platinum, because I'd probably've gone insane over distortion world Cyrus and Cynthia :D)

The first time I tried nuzlocking Platinum Cyrus' Gyarados with EQ took me off-guard and defeated so much of my team that I lost against the rest of his pokemon (I had no good counter against it due to the nuzlocke catching rules).
On my second attempt I tried to foolishly grind up on Iron Island.. guess what happened with my earlier statement of EQ & Explosion galore .. Let's just say I lost "a few" pokemon there, which quickly led to my second demise.
My 3rd attempt I had a close call against Cynthia's team, but I managed to win in the end.

My final team for Platinum was Rhydon (Lord W.Aller, L62), Houndoom (Controll, L59), Froslass (Garona, L60), Jolteon (Sparky, L60), Torterra (Dominic, L61) and Togekiss (Dirty Angel, L59). People who played against me on showdown might recognize some of these names, because nowadays I tend to use the names for my showdown teams. :)

I wonder if you can nuzlocke pokemon GO.. my guess is that GO is a no go when it comes to nuzlocking ^^

Me and a friend of mine started a new "nuzlocke" together today. The plan was to do a RivalLocke of pokemon red/blue, however due to internet issues, on his 3ds, from his part it ended up as Fire Red on the PokeMMO.

Rules of our RivalLocke:
1- Any Pokémon that faints is considered "dead," and must be released .
2- You can only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
3- You must also nickname all of your Pokémon, for the sake of forming "stronger emotional bonds."
4- Both players may not use more than two Pokemon in their party before the first gym badge, and cannot use more than four before the second gym badge.
5- After each gym battle, both players will have a Wifi Battle, and the winner decides a trade that must happen between the two players.
6- The first person to be entered into the hall of fame wins! No glitches allowed.

My starting pokemon is a Squirtle named Squad and my friend chose Bulbasaur and named him Grassinator. After winning our first badge from Brock I managed to win our first duel with my squirtle (Squad) and pidgey (Moth) against his bulbasaur and hoothoot, giving me the chance to trade my boxed weedle (Tiny) for his Hoothoot (Sleepinator). Along the way to Cerulean city I unfortunately lost my new members, Nutterz (L10. rattata) and Filly (L7. spearow).. both to electric type trainers in MT.Moon using magnemites and voltorbs.

Currently I'm grinding some levels before clearing the way to Bill with my team consisting of:
1. Moth (L.19 Pidgeotto)
2. Squad (L.21 Wartortle)
3. Dirty Angel (L.12 Jigglypuff)
4. Last Hope (L.17 Zubat)

My friend has fallen somewhat behind after losing both his Hoothoot in a trade and losing his mankey in battle. He's currently working his way through MT.Moon.

We're most likely going to continue tomorrow. How's your nuzlocke coming along mdmrn?
