I must humbly disagree. Since I use a projector and surround sound, a basement is far more appropriate. Easier to keep the basement dark to make the projector look good, and the sound is absorbed better so it's not bothering the neighbors.

.. not that I have a basement, but a man can dream...

Each comes with its own unique challenges. Basements have to be properly sealed and pumped or else they start accumulating moisture, which can be hard on your electronics and books. This can be especially problematic if you run into a long spat of heavy rain, because pumps and municipal water systems can really only do so much and soil eventually becomes saturated. On the other hand, it's easier to control lighting and basements are naturally cooler since they're underground. Of course, because they're underground things that live underground and burrow throughout their lives can sometimes find their way into your basement, meaning you might come home to find a new animal friend hanging out in your game room if you put it in the basement.

Attics are frequently constructed with little purpose beyond providing a bit of extra storage space in mind, so it's possible you'll have to put a lot of investment in before you get your game room going. The walls will probably already be insulated, but this insulation might not be covered since no one's really going up there to hang out. What's more, you might not actually have a floor in your attic since there's an expectation that you'll put boards or plywood slats over the ceiling boards and set things on top of that from the access hatch. You may also have to raise the ceiling, clear out any insect nests, and ensure there aren't any leaks. If your attic space already has essentially been converted into a proper room instead of just being an extra bit of storage I'd go with that over a basement because of the potential problems with rain or burrowing animals.

Yeah those don't exist in Miami. Well at least I've never seen one before. But I chose basement.

Basement. So peaceful and quiet, not even a bird chirping can pass through here, so I can sleep until 4PM if I choose it.

Except for my mother's annoying, "It's time for dinner", of course. She gets overprotective for some reason, she knocks on my doors frequently to check if I'm still alive. She has this insecurity where she thinks I might be dead.

Top floor please! otherwise I could get crushed by an earthquake. Basements are for people who live far, far away from the Ring of Fire, where quakes and tsunami can kill you plus they're a luxury.

My buddy had a loft in his garage where I spent a good chunk of time hanging out in. Lots of great memories there! Plus a higher space just feels more fun. Sort of a tree fort effect.

I say no to basements. I'm no damn hobbit! Also, I live in a ridiculously wet area so it can actually become a dangerous health risk if the space isn't properly maintained.

Basements have that creepy quality to them, but they're generally better spaces for game/social/rooms. Attics are kind of dank and dusty, so they don't quite have the homey feel that basements do, but at the same time, basements are also creepy due to the natural resounding of creaking pipes, people walking upstairs, etc.

A basement would be a great place for a game/hang-out room...if the houses in California had basements . Hell, most of em don't even have attics.

Projector..damn mate ya still living in the dark age. I use a wall sized 4k tv, get with the times...also sound proof insulation for the win.

As for the topic, attics, much easier to keep it light and airy. Basements are bad for your health, much harder to properly vent ya know.
