Just wanted to alert Crunchy's Hulu subscribers that the first installment of Sailor Moon Stars is now available on the site. Not sure if non-Hulu Plus users can see it, but I'm assuming they'll be adding one episode each week just as before.

For those that are wondering why this is important: the fifth season has never been available in good quality in the States until now. No more laserdisc rips!

It's worth watching to know that our long fifteen-year quest has not been in vain and that it's finally arrived (although Viz still has to get through S and SuperS before dubbing it).

Apart from that, for those who haven't seen even the laserdisc rips, it's....okay:
Basically like the "last season" of any show, where they try to revitalize the format by changing it, key cast members have moved on (Mamoru and Chibiusa are written out of the show early), and they try to shift the focus to new characters.

Not sure if it's THE going-out-with-a-bang the series deserved, but it's still a step up over SuperS.

I suppose it's for the best that North America didn't have Sailor Stars back in the 1990s, because I can't even begin to imagine what the censorship for that season would look like after seeing what happened to Super. The kissing cousins meme will never die, and it is hilarious.

They might have gone with saying they were girls in suits, but then there's the whole "Why is a girl crushing on Usagi?" thing to deal with. So, in true "We can't show the kiddies lesbians exist!" fashion they'd have probably gone full moron and tried to make the Starlights and Sailor Starlights entirely different characters. If they were dim enough to make Haruka and Michiru cousins I put nothing past them.

Ah, the unfortunate hilarity that might have been. It's for the best we don't know.

The whole Haruka and Michiru thing was awful. I hope whoever decided on cousins was fired.
