Well, I think people on reality TV shows like Ghostadventures like to overreact a lot about them... but I'm not sure, I think they are real, but at the same time, I think it's impossible to scientifically prove they do, or do not exist. I know some of my family members who say they have encountered at least strange phenomenon, like when my grandmother a long, long time ago used to work at an inn and she prepared a bed, left the room, came back, and it looked like someone was sitting on the bed, a depression on the mattress, the sheets messed up, etc. She even says she saw the apparition of the spirit, too: a young women in 1800s attire

I'm pretty sure I've seen a ghost once, so yes I believe in them.

Hmm.

If you had asked me 10 years ago I might say that I do.

When I was 8 years old I used to wake up every night to a hazy white figure of an old man sitting on the edge of my bed looking down at me. Eventually I would get up and turn on the light to nothing being there--when I turn off the light nothing was there. So I'd get back in bed, blink, and there he'd be again.

I would usually end up sleeping on the couch, and from the couch I could see into my room and I could see my bed. He'd always still be there. Sitting on the edge of my bed, except he'd be turned to look at me out on the couch from my bed. That continued until we moved. In that same old house I'd sometimes hear steps going down into the basement at night. I used to count the steps and then match them the next day -- always the same number of steps.

Now a days I don't believe in ghosts. I feel it was my childish mind playing tricks on me or trying to fill in the void for anxiety or something. I've never experienced anything similar to that since.

When I lived in Japan though, only a few years ago, my light would periodically turn on in the middle of the night (it was a pull-string light fixated in the middle of the room). But I think that's because the pull string mechanism would pull/turn 1.5 when I turned it on or off at times, and it'd turn the last .5, which would turn it back on.

I think there's an explanation for every strange supernatural thing. I think humans like to look for patterns in things that aren't there.

No, I do not believe in ghosts. I believe that perceived 'ghost' sightings is a combination of the mind playing tricks on you, misidentification of mundane things, and an effect called infrasound.

Infrasound is sound waves that are normally below the range of human hearing but does seem to cause an effect on people, usually in the vibrational frequency of below 20 Hz. These are produced by man made objects, natural sources, and animals thus giving the impression of a building being 'haunted' when in actuality its just a noisy furnace whose noises are below the range of normal human hearing. During some infrasound 'concerts' (ie, experiments) in England, about 22% of subjects reported sensations often linked to 'ghosts' such as anxiety and chills.

Even more interesting, experiments have shown that powerful but low frequency sound waves in the range of 18 Hz can actually cause optical illusions in the eye which can mimic a ghost 'visually' as well as psychologically. Further experiments have shown that several haunted sites in England are rife with sounds in this range, caused by natural sources they are close to as well as intricacies in their constructions.

This is an interesting conversation. I actually had a similar conversation with my own family recently.

When I was a kid, I was convinced they were real and had definitely thought I had interacted with some.
What was actually happening is that I would get night terrors and didn't know what to make of them. As I got older I realized that they were linked to my insomnia and stuff, so I wasn't quite as petrified by the whole thing.

I'm obviously much older now, so stuff like night terrors or anything like that wouldn't really convince me of the existence of that sort of thing, and I am usually a firm believer in there being a logical explanation for most stuff (that's not to say I am too manly to get scared by shit... because I totally do, no matter what I believe).

This is where shit gets weird, though:

The reason why this had come up with my family recently was because I had to house-sit at my aunt's place.
The house they live in has actually been in the family for a really long time, and my grandmother lives on the first floor while they have the upper two. I am not sure on the exact date of construction, but an ancestor built it in the really late 1800s

Now, keep in mind, with old houses, stuff tends to just be built weird, or feel weird, and usually the lighting isn't ideal... stuff is also usually in odd places because of conversion to electricity or swapping out wood stoves and fireplaces for more conventional heating... but this place also happens to be located so that it is surrounded on 2 sides by a pretty massive cemetery (some serious Scooby-Doo action... although I will say, it's a really nice cemetery, and it's on a pretty busy main road, so it's not like it's off in the middle of the woods)'
What I'm getting at is that the house is creepy when it's empty.

I am used to only being over there for family functions or to visit relatives, and my mother was one of 8 kids, most of whom have kids of their own, and a lot of whom visit the house on the regular because they live nearby.

I don't believe the place is haunted, because I've seen nothing to make me think it's haunted. I just think it can be creepy at times, and is somewhat unfortunately located. Plus with it being in the family for so long, you know all the previous occupants and what rooms they died in, which is just sort of messed up.
Buuuuuut there is a good chunk of the family that is convinced it is, and they seem rather calm about the whole thing, which just makes it extra weird.

At least a handful of my aunts and uncles (even my mom) have said they have seen or heard or had things happen to them. And since it would have to be family they will say stuff like "oh, it was probably just [insert dead person here] so I wasn't scared" usually attached to some experience that surely would have led to me ruining perfectly good underwear.

If that's not weird enough, the uncle that lives on the second floor is married into the family, and he has said stuff has happened to him and he is considerably less calm about it. And I would typically think someone in that position would just be playing along, but this guy is pretty rational, definitely atheist, and usually doesn't go for that sort of thing. That and his wife is one of the few among her siblings that definitely doesn't think it's haunted.

Anyways, I was there for a week, and I'll admit that I was freaked out, in spite of my reasoning... but nothing happened. I seriously ended up watching piles of movies so I wouldn't think about stuff, but by day 3 or 4 I was fine. No weird talking, no shadows, no knocking, no stuff being knocked over or moving... just me, watching lots of anime and sci-fi movies so I wouldn't psych myself out and not get to sleep.

I used to believe. A part of me still does, but that part is shrinking by the day. I'm probably like 95% sure ghosts don't exist.

I don't think spirits linger on discorporeal. According to Christians I've known you're in the earth until judgement day, then you are judged and go to an appropriate place according to your faith and works. That, or oblivion . the mind is dependent on the brain , to present scientific knowledge .

I had an experience where something invisible walked across my bed. also i have had conversations and such as well as remembering things and experiencing things that cannot particularly be explained. However I'm not going to give a simple yes/no on this one because I'm honestly not sure and there are lots of things that could explain these phenomena. I like to keep an open mind.

Yes. I think some, but not all, of it is demonic (my parents have seen that). But I believe a lot of it is people with regrets, or perhaps it's just like a 3D video, playing over and over again, with no one really being there. I think both happen.
