Proofreading is a dying art, wouldn't you say?

Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter
My grandma found this in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. Apparently, it took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

I do notice misspellings, and a lot of them can't tell the difference between than/then, which really gets on my nerves as I have some sort of grammar Nazi tendency in me.

I worked for a newspaper for a while, so I've seen some doozies. Usually not in headlines, though. We all proofread headlines pretty carefully.

I have seen things such as the word public written as "pubic" in cutlines, though.

At the end of the day, when you're trying to push a paper to press by a certain time, and you're scrambling to get everything done, mistakes get made. we're human.

When I first started working there, my coworkers played a joke on me. They convinced me that I written a headline with the word annual as "anal." They were just jacking with me, though. I still nearly had a heart attack.
