Also, if you've ever read Eaters of the Dead, by Michael Crichton (Made into the movie The 13th Warrior) it is supposedly based off of a true account.

If this is the case then that true account suggests that some neanderthals were still living at the same time as Homo Sapien... and that there were conflicts between them and the Vikings at some point.

Supposing this is all true, and that you are including all species of mankind.... them... the Eaters of the Dead were the worst.

Is the 13th warrior any good as a film?

I don't really care about Aztecs or Mongols. To me, nothing can topple the barbarity that Christian civilizations practiced for over a thousand years; what they did, not only to other civilizations, but to their own, citizens, family members, flesh and blood, and for what, a self-righteous quest for immortality, or for an audience with- or a seat next to a figment of their imagination. The shit that Christians did is uncontested. And these guys amusingly enough called other civilizations savages, while they scourged through the planet, faster than the bubonic plague.

I read about Genghis Khan a long time ago, and his regime was brutal, their body count immense, but I cannot for the life of me change my mind about Christians. The Christian body count is far higher, and their methods far worse. They were far worse than any religious based civilization that has ever been. They were far worse than any totalitarian regime known to man. They were far worse than the Aztecs, the Mongols, anyone and everyone. Decapitation? Burning? That was far from the worst they did, and it was far from a fraction of the methods they devised to torture and kill innocent people. I mean, these guys would rip people apart at their limbs. They would tie up families and drown them together. They would pour hot lead into women's wombs. POUR HOT LEAD INTO WOMEN'S WOMBS. First, they invented hell, and then, they created hell on Earth. Christians were, and to a degree still is, the devil, the pure evil that they sought to drive out from existence.

For over a thousand years.

The brutality of Christians throughout the years has been largely a result of the cultural, including social and political, circumstances.

Honestly, yes, many things that were done in the name of Christianity were terrible... but Christianity was no more responsible than the victims. Christianity was simply a tool... a banner under which to rally people... VERY little has actually been a pure result of Christianity. I would argue that much of this would have happened under a different banner, if Christianity was not available.

The Mongols killed approximately 40 million people. Only Stalin is close to that. Sorry, but they are the most brutal ever.

Probably less. The amount of people one Mongol solider would of had to kill to sustain that figure. Mao Zedong regime was said to have killed 45 million. 34 to 49 million are the estimates of people dying relating to Stalin. Also I wouldn't define brutal by amount but by their methods. That being said I would say the Mongols were the most brutal.

I dont know Id say medieval Europeans were pretty hardcore, but I think Ill stick with some ethnic bias and pick the Huns/Magyars.

All of them.
There was not one civilization that wasn't brutal.
Tortures were involved, mass raping, mass slavery, mass killing. No humanitarian laws, no equality.

That's why I'm surprised when people complain about the current world affairs, things were x100000 worse back then.

The Huns.

Also, while I wouldn't say the Mongols were the most savage civilization in history, Genghis Khan himself was pretty barbaric. One in two hundred men are descendants of him because of all the raping he did.

Yeah.... I agree.

People fail to understand there was a time when pedophilia prostitution was totally cool.

And you could barter with your 11 year-old daughter for social and political power... too bad her new owner/husband would rape her.

Abortion? Why? Just kill your baby after it is born, and become a wet-nurse for some nobility. Then life would be good.
