That pretty lame. Mucho pointless fanservice, tropish "accidental" groping, and about as leaden an infodump as I've ever seen...

Episode 1

KyoAni doing a fanservice show? Um, YES PLEASE!

Great animation and art, I love all the colors and glitchiness of the phantoms. Also the explanation for the phantoms, why people can see them, and how they can fight them actually made more sense than I thought it would. Also the show is pretty funny and I like the pacing:

Looking forward to more!

Izumi..... I think "special relations" with her could turn out pretty bad..... she sucks too much ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

I think most of it was cliche tropes about body type versus fanservice, but Mai groping herself was certainly fanservice.

Hopefully it doesn't get too over the top ridiculous, but it wasn't a bad first episode. It introduced us to the lord of the setting and we saw some action right off the bat.

Just wondering btw, is the fantasy stuff real? I find it hard to tell. I mean, they make it look like so

I think, based on the description at the beginning, that they are implying reality is perception. Therefore when the virus changed how the human brain perceives reality the creatures of fantasy became real. Whether they'd existed all along and only a handful of humans and some animals could sense them I'm not sure though the writers seem to be leaning in that direction.

This show set records for me:

First KyoAni show I ever dropped.

First show I ever dropped without even finishing the first episode.

I'm wondering if the rest of the creatures they encounter will have reasons behind their actions like the poles did. I agreed with what one of the characters said about it being a bit sad that they just wanted recognition and be able to move on though.

I like the scheme; the visuals, the colors, and the premise are interesting, and I also can relate to being a bit like the nerdy MC at a time in my life (always holed up in a book, lol). I admit the fanservice aspect was a bit excessive as far as Mai went, but if it doesn't end up being too excessive and become a pedestrian, typical harem, I may stick around. Kyoani's designs and work as usual do not disappoint as far as art is concerned, it was interesting that there was actual explanation as to why the phantoms were acting the way they were.

Also, MC is self aware that he's in KyoAni's first more "fanservicey" anime, lmao

Luckily the little devil on his shoulder saved him the embarrassment of making such a cliched mistake. Sort of.

There's a lot of shitposting on this anime already, but I enjoyed it. Fanservice and all.

The boob limbo was hilarious. And the OP / ED are both catchy.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

*Almost* happened to me as well. I even stopped the video and went to something else. But I went back to it and stuck it out and was pretty entertained by the telephone pole segment.

But overall, even though I thought the telephone pole bit was fun, and even though I quite liked the phantoms, i'm not sure how much i'll enjoy this. The parts that were "self-aware" just ticked me off even more. It's like they said

Yea, we know this generic harem light novel stuff is all-pervasive right now, but we're not like that, okay!

To which my reaction was:

But i'll give it a try anyway 'cuz it's Kyoani and they're worth it.

'Sigh'

This could be a mindless fun show to watch. It's Kyoani's, so I will keep watching it.

I though the first episode was ok, the animation is amazing and the Kirby girl is pretty cool, but needless fan service why!? I was going to keep with it but I'm going to drop it, I'm watching 10 shows this season so its not as if I need it.

A good chunk, if not the majority, of the shitting on this show is coming from people who more than likely aren't even judging the show on its own merits, but rather the fact that it isn't like KyoAni's other works. A lot of people see the studio being KyoAni and that morphs their expectations, quite possibly to heights that this show was never going to meet. I mean hell nearly all the first episode impressions from the ANN writers who have seen it even include complaints that it isn't like prior KyoAni shows.

I enjoyed the episode myself, though. Probably because the only expectation I had going in was that it would look beautiful because it is KyoAni, which honestly is what people SHOULD only be forming their expectations of a show based on its studio.
