There's a lot of shitposting on this anime already, but I enjoyed it. Fanservice and all.

The boob limbo was hilarious. And the OP / ED are both catchy.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

A good chunk, if not the majority, of the shitting on this show is coming from people who more than likely aren't even judging the show on its own merits, but rather the fact that it isn't like KyoAni's other works. A lot of people see the studio being KyoAni and that morphs their expectations, quite possibly to heights that this show was never going to meet. I mean hell nearly all the first episode impressions from the ANN writers who have seen it even include complaints that it isn't like prior KyoAni shows.

I enjoyed the episode myself, though. Probably because the only expectation I had going in was that it would look beautiful because it is KyoAni, which honestly is what people SHOULD only be forming their expectations of a show based on its studio.

I highly enjoyed the show, and while I'm a huge anime fan, I don't keep track of studios that much. Pretty much, I only know JC Staff (I do have my midnight snack with two episodes of A Certain Magical Index or Scientific Railgun every night, after all. Also have enjoyed Heavy Object and Prison School recently), Gainax (cause that's pretty much mandatory, lol), and Xebec because they're trolls that refuse to show us the Mikan nipples we all want. Ironically enough, I think I know more about hentai studios than regular anime, as my quest for more hardcore stuff ala Taimanin (without the motion sickness and seizures, that is) and more stuff by the original Futabu studio, as well as to know to completely avoid anything by the studio that took over.

I came into this one completely unaware (as I do with most animes in a new season unless they're sequels or a manga I've already been following) of anything, and was pleasantly entertained. Characters seem enjoyable (although I fear Kurumi won't become a major player until more than halfway through), the art was beautiful, and the antics were fun. I don't know exactly what KyoAni has done in the past (the name makes me think of that Free! anime I've never given the time of day to, however), so I am glad I don't have the problem most of the complainers do =)

I don't see why anyone expects great things from a KyoAni show. The only thing you should expect is great animation as that is the only thing they consistently deliver.

Good animation isn't the only thing they're consistent at though. They have a consistent "thematic style". For example - i hardly ever pay attention to animation. In fact, good animation is something I hardly ever notice (though, art style is a different story). Nevertheless, Kyoani is one of the only studios I know and follow. Why is that? It's because they make a lot of similar-ish shows, and i tend to like all those shows.

Thus, when this came out I (admittedly, naively) went in thinking. "Hey, pretty much everything Kyoani's made has been like this, and I like that, so i'll probably like this, too!". For me at least, it wasn't about expecting "great" things as much as it was expecting "similar" things.

And again, I admit that this was an unfair and naive line of thinking, but can you really blame me? It's just basic inductive reasoning. I can't speak for everyone, but I think a few others may have had similar thoughts.

Now, I wasn't completely turned off, but was still a little disappointed. Even though i'm not bashing the show (yet) I think the person I quote below really has it right (in terms of why I personally was disappointed, anyway).

And this person is right. I probably unfairly judged it based on presuppositions.

However, on the flip side, I do think it's kind of fair to judge a show based on studio. I mean, if I were to read this premise by itself and not know it was Kyoani, I could promise you I would never even try it, and definitely not completely finish it after I already half-dropped it. Yet I did, and wound up willing to give it another chance pretty much based only on my faith in Kyoani. I think it's unfair in both bad ways and good ways as well.

But that's just me, of course.

Ive moaned about fan service before but i loved it in this - its used purely for humour and the MC is both self aware of it. Ill keep an eyes on the show as some light hearted feel good fun (a limbo dance vs telegraph poles of all things? win!). Great art too.

I feel like the only thing to consistently expect among studios is an art style, and even that can differ. There can be different writers, and sometimes writers are even brought in for a specific show. Often now too, shows are based on existing manga or novels, which have different authors, so you have a chain of at least two different writers for just about every show now, lol.

Basically, ever since I learned back when Prison School came out that it was made by the same studio that did Certain Magical Index and Scientific Railgun, I've come to not pre-judge or pre-value shows based on the studio. Let's face it, Prison School and Certain Magical Index couldn't be any more different. I'm guessing anything else KyoAni has done is closer to Phantom World than the disconnect between Prison School and other JC Staff works, haha.

True you can't always judge a show by its studio, but most anime fans have seen so much harem/ ecchi shows, you just know it at first glance. And this show delivered on the aforementioned genre. I'm surprised this show have people defending it, but I guess that's the reason Japan keeps pumping out the same thing over and over again, like an assassins creed game everywhere year lol. There's no problem wanting to have variety in anime these days. Luckily Erased delivers.

Is it ecchi? yup, even the MC knows it.
Is a harem? no idea to be honest at this stage, likely is.

The main question for me though is "was i entertained?" and yes i was. Im the guy who reads Berserk, Vagrant and Tenkyuu Shinpan... its not an anime aimed at me but doesnt mean i cant enjoy it or have to defend liking it. I also liked Monster Musume and Prison School... the connection not being the fanservice etc but the fact both are laugh out loud funny to me. I need MORE comedy anime... like Nozoki-Kun and Comical Psychosomatic Medicine, things like being a harem is of no importance to me.

Actual anime fans know that harem and ecchi shows aren't all the same.

There's variety every season, but you people don't actually watch anime so it's not like you could know that.

Assuming I don't watch anime is quite the claim lolz. I've been a subscriber and watcher for 3 years now thank you

Actual anime fans who watched tons of anime for many years also know the difference, that's why you see a lot of them that say " generic" " oh another harem/ ecchi". Many are aware of the downward spiral the anime industry is in that's one of the reasons. Majority of them are the same no matter how you try to spin it.

They're countless MC leads that are these teenagers set in high school setting who have mindsets of a children, there's a infinite amount of these characters. In fact you see this on other forums including this one: the reasons why Erased is a hit right now is because isn't the generic bs that we always see and the MC is pretty mature and older, just read those post. It's nice to see an anime aimed towards an older age bracket. People like you who jump to conclusions really have nothing noteworthy in your defense, it's all opinions( and most want to see innovative or original ideas, at least people who liked to use their brain), deal with it. Peace

I also like Monster Musume and especially Prison School, they were different then the rest, but this show and many others strike me as the same old same old. High school DxD( first season) and Heaven's Lost property also are enjoyable and separate from the rest. The whole point is that you don't have very many shows like them. Nozaki was also hilarious, I agree. I'm not obligated to like every comedy/ harem that comes out, most usethe same old tropes I've seen numerous times. Prison School and Food wars a surprising change..

It's subjective however you look at it and most seemed to be dropping this show pretty soon. I also want more comedy like Baka & Test and the aforementioned anime I cited.
