Sentai has just announced their broadcasting plans for this show, and just like with Chivalry of a Failed Knight last season, it's going to be exclusive on Hulu with a subscription required to watch it the same day as in Japan.

Every season...

I got a feeling this is going to happen to something in Spring as well.

Hulu is not for Canada if I recall... Honestly... Just give Crunchyroll rights to air in English Territories but United States. Such a waste of a license.

Any chance it will eventually stream somewhere else? Or just straight to a home release?

Can't really complain as I know Canada doesn't get screwed as much as other territories, but these "shitlord" exclusive deals are annoying.

It is also streaming on The Anime Network (sans the United States), but it appears you may have to be a subscriber. It isn't clear yet whether their 3 simulcasts this season are subscriber only for a set period (e.g., one week) or for the duration:

Yep, there's absolutely no way I'm going to sub to Hulu just to watch this show ad free.

I don't use Hulu, so how does it work? Can I still watch this with ads or do I need a subscription to watch this?

Also, this seems to have a lot of ecchi in it, so i'm not too positive about it. I'll check it out, but has anyone read the LN? If so, is it any good?

You can watch with a browser for free with ads, but if you want to use a device, like a Roku, you have to subscribe, at least minimally.

Your foresight seems to be correct, Wizard. Three points.

What in the world is Sentai trying to do here?

Hulu supposedly has better ad rates than most other online video companies are able to garner, so perhaps Sentai makes a bit more on Hulu than via CR, at least if one is considering only the US.

I expect last season was an experiment to see if cutting CR out would mean a boost in the revenue at Hulu that was more than the loss from Hulu. Sadly, it appears the answer was, "Yes, it does".

The real puzzlement is the international factor. Last time around, with Chivalry of a Failed Knight, they did nothing with the Canadian rights or any rights they may have had for other countries. This time they at least make it available for international viewers, but via TAN/ANO, which has a small presence in the US and Canada, and I would expect is close to completely unknown overseas. Worse, so far it appears those viewers will have to subscribe to view it, with apparently a choice of only 3 shows as their compensation. Certainly when it comes to the international picture, it isn't hard to see that licensing to CR should bring in more money.

I expect we are probably stuck with a single Sentai title being a Hulu exclusive for the foreseeable future. Hopefully the TAN/ANO international simulcasts won't last (as they don't seem to be economically viable for international viewers). The best likely scenario would be if in the future, Sentai still used Hulu for the international reach of their Hulu exclusives.

The Hulu show page doesn't appear to be fully active at the moment (comes up in search and listings, but doesn't display). However, the episode can be viewed by direct link, and at the moment it doesn't require a Hulu premium account, which I thought was going to be necessary for the first week.

Edit: Checking again, the show page still isn't up, but now the direct video link requires a Hulu premium account to view.
