Genuinely curious to know since the new policies for discussion topics are in place.

As someone who has devoted years of time on CR, I really want to hear a clear and honest answer. Thanks

Edit: please lock this topic.
I guess we can take the discussion to the main topic about it rather than here as we got a decent amount of answers.

I see no point to them and saw nothing wrong with the old way.

Been here well over 4 years now and been actively participating in the anime section forums since. The first time I've actually posted was around when Chrome's battle tournament thread was active and Fall season was ending so it pretty much coincide as 4 years.

Never have I've seen the anime section forums change like this in a matter of a single time.
I genuinely wonder why this is being put into place. Why now? Why the certain big change? There were never big issues with this so it's literally like fixing something that wasn't broken.

You know what, I have to question the matter too. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's not a matter of what is causing the change, but rather, WHO is causing it. Someone(s) are up to something and I want answers myself..

I'm guessing people are on Holiday break now so we probably won't be expecting an answer until later this week.
Who knows.

My guesses about the change though (take it as a grain of salt):

- Some people complained for whatever reason about the original system although I've never seen it been posted publicly so I have no idea.
- Spoilers. (imo, this is a rather petty reason). Every site, no matter where you go, there will be spoilers. The best way to get by them? Common sense.
- CR is getting more popular over these years so the site wants to do some revamp to make it look more fresh
- Allowing users to get a better experience with discussion. (which is kinda of the opposite at this point). Nothing was wrong before.

Just my 2 cents.

Anyways, I'm going to be back later but will be keeping an eye for any answers. It's Holiday season and time to enjoy some Christmas irl.
I hope we get some mature and honest answers regarding what I asked.

It s my GUESS that in some anticipation threads there is information that is not only wrong, but also p-laces the show in a bad light. No saying you or the other OPers supply wrong information, but I have seen wrong posted. Also once a show starts wading through the anticipation messages to get to the actual show discussions can be frustrating. A lot of this has to do with the forum software where the search function sucks and the software doesn't remember the last message read by a user in each forum. For me in each thread I am in I have to go to the last page and ten scroll backwards till I find my stopping point. But again this is all a GUESS on my part and probably wrong.

Personally, I'd say anticipation threads are for anticipating an anime. That's a glib and short answer, so, longer version...

You know there's an anime in production, will be coming, soon to be released in the area, etc. You want to talk about it! You saw a preview image and have ideas about what that guy with the sword does. That girl with the twin tails, is she the love interest, or could she be the main character? I read the manga, and this will be awful because SPOILERS AHEAD. I know the producer, and this will be awesome, because SPOILERS AHEAD. Personally, I have been doing that for Star Wars items forever. Toys, movies, books, everything. Hated the prequels for various reasons, but I still was very into anticipating what might come next and would talk about it on other forums with people.

For completeness, I'll include a link to the other thread about the change in policy, which I see you're also posting in. I'm not exactly sure how this thread is not basically a dupe of that discussion, since you're basically making the same points in both places...

I erased the whole post becuase between CR / and the lack of common sense all around a lot of people have ruined the whole CR fun on the forums !

So I see this rule is broken already of a Grey area issue whwen there are not shows yet. Pft!

Will be updated as new discussion threads are started. New discussion threads for new shows may be started no earlier than first air date

4 shows already with no air date ?

"I am totally looking forward to how they animate X Scene from Volume Y" is anticipation

"They Animated X Scene from Volume Y really well, but I think the manga did it better" is Discussion

I think the point is to separate spoiler filled talk of what is going to happen from talking about what has actually been aired.

Maybe Anticipation is the wrong word perhaps it should be Series Discussion vs. Episode Discussion

IMHO doesn't this just emphasize how and why actually splitting up the threads may cause some confusion to some? I totally get the whole idea about people avoiding anticipation to not be spoiled. I get it. But, it just seems like the more we discuss this topic, the more things are unclear on how we should proceed.

What I was also wondering if we can actually keep both threads in the end since one seems to focus on weekly discussions while the other is about the general thoughts of a show. Although the word "discussion" can be a bit ambiguous here since users can discuss anything about the show as long as it's related.

That would still be quite confusing so the solution proposed was to eventually lock the anticipation threads, something that I find pointless which leads to my question.

Regarding spoilers, I've said this many times already but it's really just common sense that solves a lot of problems. Properly tag spoilers with clear wording. Or maybe even the OP can warn in the first post of the thread for spoilers. This exists on virtually every anime site, not just CR. The new guidelines are not going to solve this problem.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Locking them, but that would just make things worse imho.

I don't think it's that complicated.

Discussion threads should just stick to What has actually aired.

everything else goes into Anticipation

Now where to include Trailers and PVs and commercials leading up to the series

I see. I dunno man. I can understand both sides of the coin, but it just seems like a lot more work to me than to just keep it all in one thread haha.
