Has this cind of thread has been made before?

When have you ever felt it would be good to check others reviews?
Do you check others often?
When would you?
Think its usefull?
Should there be anything more to it?

and if there is anything more you want to discuss like PM'ing being messy and sometimes just a pain?

People always give a positive review. It sickens me. The show has to be really, REALLY, bad to get anything other than 5 stars.

No, as I recognize that my tastes are really really different from other anime fans. For example, I often see in reviews, "Sword Art Online/Attack on Titans/Fairy Tail is the best anime ever, must watch! Before you die" sort of commentaries. I've watched all of them thoroughly, and I just don't hold the same opinion. Maybe I would think the same if I were 15? But at this age, I just can't enjoy those types of anime... or anime where there are dancing/singing girls/boys, not my thing at all.

I do read reviews on products such as electronics like a camera or laptop, as they're more on the objective side of things. I like objectivity.

This. The same applies to an episode's comment section as well. It's all a gigantic circlejerk where any and all legitimate criticism is drowned out by rabid fans hailing the show as the second coming of anime Christ.

I meant more of going to someones profile for their user reviews but the normal review system I guess works too. XD

so you don't like those animes anymore and want more drama/reality? dark themed etc? also not all animes with some dacing moments for fun is that bad are they? and can understand those wild or overexaggerated reviews are boring or sometimes really annoying.

sometimes but many times not really to places not at all (in the more "adult" or mature content) or atleast is much rare to see it there I guess because you will act a bit more serious after watching it.

Yeah, this really bothers me too. When I first considered subscribing to Crunchyroll, I was really put off by the fact that everything (including things I knew everyone hated) had a 5 star rating. I thought maybe Cruchyroll deleted negative reviews or something. As it stands now, the reviews are useless. Well, maybe not: you can at least guess that something 3 or 4 stars is literally unwachable). I always leave negative reviews if the show I watched was terrible.

sure, but that does not mean if people are better or have more in common with what review they will rate usefull or being good to seek all the reviews to come with an conclustion to what the series could be about and if you would like it or not (like watching few postive and negative reviews for a better understanding what could be good or bad about it and worth the time)

so:
Making a good/decent postive or negative reviews.
Rate reviews in a serious manner?
Read to understand what you could like or dislike about it.

Not necessarily dark themed or even for mature audience. Take Lucky Star for example, I enjoyed that anime because it is funny and witty, yet it's definitely not intended for older audience. Or Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, pretty sure the intended audience is 12-17 years old kids, but I enjoyed it because there is something there for me to enjoy. I liked the scene where she and Kon stopped at a railcrossing and she was questioning her existence, there's something for me to relate to there. Having said that, I didn't enjoy "The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan" that belongs to the same franchise? because it is terrible and does not have the great narrative of the original series, that one is purely based on anime fanservice and tropes that I don't particularly enjoy in anime.

What he means is, most of the teenage oriented series will have high ratings because teenagers tend to rate higher.

It's kind of interesting from the mod side of things - can't tell you how many times I've seen a report about a low-rated review that basically just said "this person is stupid for giving a low review on this show". No, sorry, not removing the review for something like that...

Anyway, I know for myself, I'm only driven to write a review if something is really good or really bad, and I'm personally more likely to write something good about a show I like to say why I think others might like it, too. Then again, I've only got one review on here for now, for a terrible show, but my Amazon product reviews are more of a mix.

Can't say I'd ever review something I'd consider average. It's what I expected, good enough.

I tend not to read reviews, though, for those same reasons. I try to give any anime that seems like it might be up my alley a 3 episode test, or wait for the end of the season so I can marathon things that were just on the edge of what seemed like potentials. Don't want to let a couple bad episodes turn me off a show I might otherwise love.

Well as someone who likes educated reviews, I can say that internet based reviews on services such as MAL and here on CR are in my opinion horrible at best since they often do not have a educated opinion regarding a subject. Their just like "hey this is great and a must watch" or "it's horrible". That's not the sort of review I'm after

I like the more in-depth reviews because even if they give a 5-star review, it at least gives some indications/warnings about what kind of show it is. Really cuts down on time when finding shows to watch in anime club.

I only write reviews for shows I like. And no I don't give everything a 5 star review. Some of the cynicism and condescending attitudes some of you are making towards others and what they like reminds me of why I used to avoid social media sites. I think people take more pride in hating something than they do in expressing how much they like something. Knocking on people for liking something in groups and expressing their joy just isn't cool imho.

*shrug* Oh well I guess people gotta get their jollies off somehow.
