I never see alot of "Gegege no Kitaro" fans here or anywhere else online. I love Kitaro, it was the first ani-manga franchise that I've been obsessed about since 2014.

Kitaro started as a manga created in 1959 by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. Beside his mostly-decayed father, Kitaro is the last of his kind - The Ghost Tribe (幽霊族, yūrei zoku). His macabre beginning is when his mother died when he was still in her, but he managed to be born and crawled out of the grave. His father, not wanting his son to be alone came back as one of his eyes and known as " Medama-Oyaji." He fights for peace between humans and yokai, which generally involves protecting the former from the wiles of the latter. Kitaro and his father are accompanied by Nezumi-Otoko (Rat-Man) and Neko-Musume (Cat-Girl).

"Gegege no Kitaro" became an anime series in 1968 and four other anime versions were made as well in 1971, 1985, 1996 and 2007. The anime franchise became REALLY popular in Japan, but strangely not here in North America. My top favorite anime versions of "Gegege" are the 60s and the 80s version.

It's got the same stigma as what took Doraemon too long to come over here:
Too "kiddy", too old, too rooted in the native culture, and it'd been on the air/manga so long, no importer knew where to start.

It's fun, though, IF you happen to be well-versed in Japanese yokai enough to get the jokes.
And even the NA version of Yo-Kai Watch didn't help with that.

It's one of my favorite series of all time. I have the JP dvd box set of the 1980s anime series.

It's a good series. One of my friends loves it a lot. We all cosplayed from it a few years ago. One was Kitaro, the other was Neko Musume, and I was Ratman.

Wonderful! The 80s version is one of my favorite versions of Kitaro. DANG! I wish I could learn Japanese, but I might after I learn French

I have seen Neko-Musume around before. Never got around to actually watching the series though.

Where's a good place to start with it?

Well there are a few episodes on Dailymotion and all the episodes are deleted off YouTube. But I was fortunate enough to finish the 90s version. Thanks SO much for you reply here
