So I started Eyeshield 21 a while ago and i'm on episode 21 (no really), and i'm not really feeling it. Since some old shounen anime typically starts slow, I just kept going hoping it would get better, but this match against the Egyptian team just made it too ridicolous.

I consider myself a huge sports fan with Hajime no ippo as my favorite anime ever, and there are very few sports that i dislike, but Eyeshield 21 is just so far off right now. Their first match was really good, but after that everything went downhill with fillerlike episodes and ridicolous themed teams.

There are some positives though, but it's just lacking so much in both character and story.

I just want to know some opinions so I can make up my mind...it's 145 episodes after all.
Also, does Hiruma get a backstory or something? Or anything at all, that would be a huge plus.

I'd say the matches get much more interesting later on once the players start to develop their style.

Though overall, it still suffers from slow pacing.

The egyptian part is pretty much one of the only hard to watch opposing teams, but luckily you don't have to hear about them later on and eventually Sena actually develops into an interesting character and it really goes fun. But yeah it stops being less fillerish later on, so if you can just keep on with it... And if everything else fails, at least you got tons of episodes to Myanimelist... xD

(And if the first match was nice to watch, then there are definitely many more matches left to watch! :D)
