Let's have some less talk about distribution issues, and some more talk about Pizza Cats! Did you know the character designer still draws the characters on his blog? Look through the backlog, and you'll find over 300 SPC-related drawings dating from this year all the way back to back to 2006 when the blog started. He's even occasionally shared various anecdotes from the show's production.

If you have never seen this one, you are in for a treat. Genuinely funny.

I've seen the original Japanese, and it's an even funnier treat.
(And less hyperactive and desperate...Think Funi's Sgt. Frog dub vs. the sub.)

It's just annoying to see people constantly blaming Crunchy for this problem, when they're only at the end of line of this massive farce of a train.

Let's point out--AGAIN--that we're only getting this because of Discotek, and Discotek only has it because they're re-releasing the SPC dubbed series on SD-Blu-ray disk in January:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B018ENE3G6/
(No word on whether their DVD set of the subbed Kyatto Ninden Teyande will be included on the dub BD, or in the works for an upgrade, but if they've still got the soft rights to the JP track, some of us wouldn't mind seeing that show up here, too.)

And to those posters whining "Why Crunchyroll won't license outside of NA?", or "When will CR license my other favorite obscure series from the 90's?" I would say...c'mere, a second--Let me put my arm around your shoulder, ol' pal, and explain this to you again:
Wait, is that a piece of lint on the back of your hair? Let me just get that off you for a second--
(grabs back of head)
Crunchyroll DOESN'T--
(bangs head on table!)
LICENSE
(bang!!)
their OWN
(bang!!)
FREAKIN'
(bang!)
catalog SERIES!!
(bang!)
They get them from Nozomi and Discotek, because nobody else will!

(And given the rare gold that Nozomi and Discotek have a habit of digging up, that's fine with me. )

I just got through reading tons of comments where people are complaining that they can't see SAMURAI PIZZA CATS because of licensing issues.

To think I live in a world where this show is even remotely THAT popular. My mind is blown.

To finish my hypocrisy on a positive note: it's likely that I'm going to be late to work because I'm going to watch a dozen episodes right now because... "reasons."

I like the original too, I don't know where this narrative on the internet the original is boring came from. It really has a lot of the same type of humor that the dub is known for: puns, pop culture references, fourth wall breaking, ad-libbing, self deprecation, it's all there. They're both great shows.

The BD is dub only. The two versions need to have different footage due to editing differences, so it's not as easy as just including an additional audio track. That's why the DVD releases were separate. But I definitely would support a similar BD release for Teyandee, as well as it being added to Crunchyroll's catalog.

Although, of course, the reason SPC was so "crazy" is that the dubbers were never provided with translation scripts--
They had Streamline's Jerry Beck to translate the plotlines, so those were more or less intact, but with no dialogue, they literally had to Make The Whole Crap Up.
Which installed in me at a very early age the impression that Fourth-Wall Jokes Are the Last Refuge of the Comically Desperate. It don't automatically make your humor Rocky & Bullwinkle's if you don't know what you're doing to begin with.

(And which is why I compared it to Funi's Sgt. Frog dub, once they started hating their show enough to throw the scripts out the window and do their own snarky passively-hostile ad-libbing, and then motormouthing them at the inhuman speed of light to try and cram them back into rhythm with the original mouth movements, but at least they had the translation scripts to begin with.)

The original KNT is more like Akazukin Cha-Cha in spirit:
A crazy, genki gag-action show for the younger set, until the big MOTW battle erupts at the eighteen-minute mark, and then the Ritual of Stock-Footage Powerups begin.
It wasn't a complex show, it was for those who wanted to see the Cat's-Eye Slash every week.

For the same reason the DiC-dubbed Sailor Moon has such nostalgic love--
The dubbed version was all we got back then, and if you liked THAT hack-dubbed mess...

Oh wow, never thought I'd see this again. Out of everyone I know I'm the only one that remembers this from when we were young, probably my first anime without knowing!

Not too bothered about it being unavailable here, it's gonna be one of those where you watch an episode or two for the sake of nostalgia and move on. It would be awesome to be able do that though.

They very well could be. It isn't at all unusual for a new service to lose money to build their library.

Also, note the number of those titles that are licensed here by Funimation. Funimation isn't going to share titles with CR unless they are compelled to. Oddly, they don't seem to see Viewster as competition (perhaps because they aren't an anime-specific service).

At least Viewster still manage to add quite some old shows in their catalogue during the meantime AND in different regions without too much bias. You can hardly call it competition if there's almost no competition at all. For instance, in my region the only English streaming sites are Crunchyroll, Viewster and Daisuki as for now.

It's not a matter of this show is licensed by company X or company Y. It's more like it's taken by company X/Y or no one at all.

Don't get me wrong is how I saw it at first when I was a kid, but it really differs from the original version. And actually I liked it more in Japanese, the puns and gags are tougher to understand but was so much worth it.

Hope CR can put it subbed, please. (´・ω・)ノ

Add the original "Kyatto Ninden Teyandee" as well, then we'll talk. No offense, Crunchyroll, but dub-only anime is really unbecoming of you guys.

For those interested in this show's unique blend of SD mecha, cartoon animals, and jidaigeki elements in its character design, I've uploaded a set of model sheets I bought on auction a few years ago to my photo gallery here. If you've ever wondered what Speedy and Guido look like without their helmets, now you can find out!
