The EU is only a bloc in some respects - when it comes to content licensing, it's every country for itself. And besides, the UK won't be part of the bloc for much longer anyway if public opinion continues along current trends.

Not quite every country for itself, the UK is almost always bundled with Ireland. It's also bundled with Scandinavia surprisingly frequently as "English-speaking Europe", and very rarely you might see the Netherlands bundled in too. French-speaking territories are almost always bundled together and sold as a single package, same with German-speaking territories, but Poland has been occasionally bundled with German-speaking territories before. Basically European content contracts are an absolute mess and different packages and bundles.

However, with the exception of Kaze and maybe Anime Limited (who stream internationally, but only do physical releases in the UK, Ireland & France) there isn't really any anime companies set up to deal with pan-European rights, so bundling the whole EU together would probably cause problems too.

The first 3 parts were already licensed by a US company, Discotek, who is the publisher providing them to CR (which is also why they are available only in the US and Canada).

I wouldn't be surprised if the way CR got the rights to this series were by also getting the home video rights (they've done it with a few series before). If so, I would expect they would relicense those rights to Discotek, as they did with these series.

The previous 3 parts are also not legally available in English outside North America, so I can't help but feel that might put people off, especially when it has PART4 in big letters in it's title. It'd be great if they could secure expanded rights for the previous series.

It's kind of impressive to me that we are now getting DRRR on THREE streaming sites, yet none of them are making the show available in Europe (unless CR changes the territories for the last season, which is unlikely) What did we do to Aniplex to deserve this?

Crunchyroll deals with Aniplex of America who generally only handle English-language and pan-American rights to their series, whilst Aniplex's main Japanese office handles rights for the rest of the world. Sometimes Scandinavia and Denmark are included with English-language rights, but it's hit and miss as to whether they are or aren't.

It's not a good reason to exclude people, and as a fellow European (although from the UK) I feel your pain. I can see why they do it though...

I agree que Lupin III Could Not Be expanded to Latin America, UK, etc ... because it was licensed by Discotek yet now this expansion Could be made through the distributor. because it Asmik Ace It Is Entitled Also the the first seasons of Lupin III.
In summary if it is of interest to Crunchyroll he will be able to expand Lupin III to other regions of the world always problem.

I still have hope that the Crunchy bring the first seasons of Lupin III to Brazil.

I still need to get going on the other three parts. Thank god there isn't any real continuity with Lupin.

Pumped to get this season started!

the best funny anime. It is always great fun, watching as Lupin manages to escape the armed plastered by Detective Zenigata.
