But its not they who are being represented are they? didn't find that on the page from OP.
Even though it could be a bit more modern and what did they use it for (image) if it was for local attraction I don't see the harm.
but if it was for a group or more a direct advertisment then yeah not a great idea unless if you actually did it old style.

Isn't Shima their town? The picture is of an Ama which they are so it does represent them. It doesn't matter what we think of the resulting image. It is what the local community think of the image that is most important, everything else is secondary.

Yes in the past their grandmothers and great grandmothers dived wearing thongs or shorts but that was then. They were also working not trying to sell an image.

Wouldn't really call that explicit. And if it's fitting...I have no idea.

"Stop sexualizing women"

"Alright-"

"This woman is nothing but a sex object!"

"But you just said-

"LYDGYYSEUIPYUIDIY"

A majority of people are inherently bigoted. That's not to say its a bad thing. The word's connotation is the way it is because its most commonly used to refer to extremes (racists,etc.).

Wait a minute, that was explicit? If it was an ecchi image with nudity, I hate to see what would happen in the town.

That is classical art, not pornography.

Doesn't mean I can't fap to it. I was once in the nude section in the art museum. Barely made it out alive.

The city of Shima, the host of the 2016 Group of Seven summit in central Japan, withdrew “Megu Aoshima,” a 17-year-old girl diver character, as its official character in November after angry women who actually work as divers launched a campaign. The character, used on posters advertising Shima, was clothed in a tight-fitting diving dress that showed her thighs and emphasized her breasts.

This image is bad?

Those women have every right to say how they'd like to be represented.

Wait, the anime or the real women that live in the town?

The real women in that town. It's not a company but local government representation of the town during a summit.

Huh, did I do something wrong? Like derailing? I hope I don't get banned, I was living up to my reputation of using puns. Oh well.
