Can someone from CR let me know if the company has any plans on developing support for the gearVR?

If not I would be interested in talking to someone from CR and being part of the effort to get it rolling both technically and financially.

Highly doubt they have something in the works. GearVR, is so new they probably don't even have it on the radar screen.

Other than being a private viewing screen, what would be the benefit? Anime is produced with a static screen in mind, and doesn't even support stereoscopic (3D) views.

There is also the question of audience penetration.

Most new apps are initially available only to subscribers. At last report, CR had 700,000. If only 1% had a specific device (and that would probably be generous for Gear VR in the near future), that would be only 7,000 people.

I believe the benefit would be more than simply your current database. Firstly, you would be the only Anime provider on that entire platform. Secondly, seeing as VR media developers are not pushing embedded subtitle support you would be a go to app for anyone that enjoys new anime prior to awaiting hardcoded subbed/dubbed releases. Thirdly, the library is small currently so being part of VR as it grows gives a huge advantage over any competitors, even though that list is already small for you guys.

VR will be making huge leaps in 2016 and I hope to see you guys there beside the other majors.

Given the manner in which you addressed your reply, be certain to take note of the line at the bottom of each of my messages:

I'm aware. I just figured I would answer your questions to CR directly if they had the same concerns/questions.

Gear VR support would be really good! It's the only thing stopping me from buying the GearVR actually.

I haven't gotten my Gear VR in the mail yet, but I've been excited to use it to lay down in bed like a lazy log and watch episodes of my favorite anime, but... this makes it sound like you can't use Crunchyroll at all on the Gear VR? Or am I wrong in reading all this?

I just watched an episode of SAO on Netflix on my Gear VR, and it was one of the coolest viewing experiences ever. Please tell me this is at least being considered...

It would be pretty cool to have gear VR support. Just look at what Netflix did with their app. You get transported into a Virtual living room where you can watch all the netflix tittles. This could work on flights, car trips, laying in bed, or even just in front of your actual computer but wanting a more "home theater feeling" even if you don't have a home theater.

Or even for the theater mode, just sit back in realistic looking virtual cinema and watch your favorite episodes.

Being that CR is anime related, think of all the cool themes you guys could do with the virtual environment. It could be in a neat oldschool edo- tatami matted temple on a nice spring day looking at a TV, with a view of hotsprings and cherry blossoms falling when you look to your left, etc.

You are correct, you cannot. You can watch all the anime on Netflix in VR, though.

Just keep in mind you would be sacrificing resolution in exchange:

CR doesn't have anywhere near the resources of Netflix, but they could probably relatively easily do a simpler "private viewing" app that would simply split the screen and display the same image to both eyes.

There would need to be a sufficient audience among the CR membership, however, with the device to make it worthwhile. That probably isn't going to happen any time soon. CR has been burned before by supporting devices too early, and signs point toward them being more conservative going forward and only releasing apps for established platforms.

I've already seen everything I wanted to from Netflix already. Their selection is small, and old. The reason I like Crunchyroll is I get new stuff as it comes out, not after a few years or so. :/ Thanks though.
