Yea Netflix on Gear vr works great, I like how the screen really feels so big. I would love to see something similar for Crunchyroll.

+1 for Gear VR or at least Cardboard support. I'd love to be able to go out to my car on my lunch break at work, or even sit at my desk, and watch anime know in a private virtual movie theater.

Hi there!

There is a way to do this, though it's certainly not a CR feature or app (I wish it were though, the NetFlix experience is amazing!). It involves using your laptop or computer to actually play the video and then streaming your desktop to the Gear VR.

I discovered this while trying to identify a way to just view my XboxOne through the Gear VR.

You can thank this chap for his method, though to watch CR you only need to go to step 3. (Also, i'm not 100% sure if your OS matters, as long as it's compatible with the PC VR application).

If you have any questions let me know, have fun and good luck!

Honestly myself I would just like to have the ability to split the screen in 2

so that non gear VR VR headset would still allow me to watch videos in the Crunchyroll app

I don't need the 3D capabilities just the split screen or side-by-side screens

Netflix on Gear VR is fantastic, really wish there was a Crunchyroll app on it.

Other than being a private viewing screen, what would be the benefit?

There is also the question of audience penetration.

Most new apps are initially available only to subscribers. At last report, CR had 700,000. If only 1% had a specific device (and that would probably be generous for Gear VR in the near future), that would be only 7,000 people.

well the immersion, when you see the anime with out distraction us just amazing

the cost it not so much especially if are less user since need less resources for the streaming use the same video just in other place

at last those that DRM allow

Crunchyroll has to be sideloaded to be used on basic devices designed for watching tv traditionally.
I'd be shocked if they all of a sudden jumped on board with virtual cinema.

The timid nature of the company doesn't inspire much confidence in survival if other big players get serious in the market.
Netfix, hulu, and now amazon channels are quickly stomping on any hope that crunchyroll will be loosening its belt (not even going to mention pirates).

I watch 80% of the time my anime on daydream, is awesome. the only time I don't watch in vr is on Crunchyroll exclusive content, if there wasn't a couple of critical shows I'd drop Crunchyroll because of no vr support.
