So when I can't sleep and it's late into the night, I start getting these thoughts that maybe some of my most cherished memories are fake. Also that I might have memories I cannot remember for whatever reason and it scares me. Does anyone else feel this way? Were any of these suspicions confirmed?

I have a really good memory and can remember events that others who were with me at that time cannot remember. Recently my mom told me that one of these memories, where I thought a guest who had stayed in our house for a night, had pooped in the bed. She told me this never happened and that I probably just heard her talk about such an incident which happened to someone else.

... or maybe she lied to me? .... because this memory is somehow connected to a repressed memory? Lol jk. But there's no way to confirm, is there?

Lot of my childhood memories are missing/lost/partial because of what I can assume is trauma from 10+ years back. Mainly in the last five, I'd been pretty heavily abused, until a couple years ago, so my memories are really kind of fuzzy. The memories I do have are mainly with my dad and sister, because they were seemingly the better aspects of my childhood life. My sister and i were very close and quite demented.

I had this relationship with a woman named Clementine but I cannot remember much about her. It's a struggle to preserve my memories of her and my love for her. One small thing I do remember is her telling me to meet her in Montauk.

this one is most likely a made up repressed memory, but I use to have this friend no one could see her but me, my parents just shrugged her off as an imaginary friend, soon she started to hit me and wouldn't stop and I would beg and cry for my parents to make her stop as well as make her stop looking at me all the time because she was scaring me ,my parents also found scratches all over my body sometimes

though however my parents remember this as well, in fact they're the ones who told me about it, because I cant remember it myself it was only because of my parents

I remember a lot of things from the house where that happened but why can't I remember her?
Like I can remember waking up to my parent's screaming and looking down and seeing blood which lead down to
our pet rabbit with it's head torn off , my parents confirmed that this happened cause they remember as well

and I can remember my parents fighting all the time, I remember hearing glass break and my mother crying.

but still I'm sure my parent's are just trying to scare me with that friend of mine

I don't repress any memories. It's in the past anyways.

I have a bit of a distorted memory. As a kid I thought I was drowning in a riptide I got caught in. The lifeguard saved me but I thought for sure I was going to die. My mom told me the lifeguard "saved" a bunch of other kids throughout the day to impress some women. Her version seems far more plausible.

To add some actual science to this conversation we should probably go over memory in general, but for the sake of keeping things rather brief..

First of all, Repressed Memories is a very controversial topic in terms of the reality of their existence. There is a large disagreement among the social practitioners and the scientists and researchers. Of course, it largely depends on the level of abuse that has been received, as Repressed Memories are primarily known in legal cases or social cases under traumatic abuse situations, a lot being sexual abuse at that.
http://www.psychologicalscience.org/index.php/news/releases/scientists-and-practitioners-dont-see-eye-to-eye-on-repressed-memory.html

& The reason scientists, and an increasing number of Psychologists - for example, all of my Professors when I was getting my Psychology degree were very hesitant to say they thought the repression of memories were likely, and my Cognitive Psych Professor (who specializes in Eye Witness Testimony & Memory) openly did admit his skepticism of Repressed Memories - largely, the disagreement comes in the representation of Long Term Memory. Over time with the increase of Neuroscience, and our understanding of brain physiology, we have learned that our memories really do change over time & our not accurate representations of reality. There are too many external variables that effect our memory. http://bcur.org/journals/index.php/TPSS/article/view/465 http://www.nature.com/nrn/journal/v14/n9/abs/nrn3563.html

For a scholarly guide to the conversation from the Practitioner Side (Clinical Psychologist): http://www.jimhopper.com/memory/

As far as your question goes - yes, a lot of your old memories are probably not entirely accurate.

EDIT: I should clarify that when I am referring to Repressed Memories & my Professors disregarding the probability or likelihood - they were in regards to the use of non-abuse, such as a random memory. Which is appropriate for your poop memory. T

My made up memories come true.

Would be useful if I could remember them.

I have memories that I dont think about. Only recently have I started to remember stuff about a certain period in my life. Its fuzzy and only small details come back.

As too the memories that only you can remember. I remember going to see Catwoman in theaters with my dad, but he swears it never happened.
Implanted memories or false memories are definitely a thing so there is that.

The only memories I can't recall happened when I was really drunk, so it's probably best if they stay buried.
