Do homework, smack yourself, run around, and cry. That's how I did it.

Basically stay occupied

Lots of coffee would probably do the trick I would guess. If you have access to a coffee maker (with a pot) I'd recommend making enough for 8-12 mugs and put a straw in the pot and drink out of the pot until you are wired. Works for most everyone I know.

Caffeine (some consider it a drug, some just think of it as coffee or Mountain Dew) helps. Edge of your seat horror movies can do the trick, something that makes you too afraid to sleep. If you definitely need to stay up and don't mind a bit of discomfort, eat foods that you know will repeat on you.

when you start to feel tired, stand up and walk around, drink water, play games.
That's what I do to stay awake.

Speaking of wings, just eat like 50 hot wings and you'll be shitting all night. No time to sleep (^^)b

I've tried various methods, and I've found that if I give in to the nearly irresistible urge to lay my head down and sleep, I will crash as soon as I hit the pillow. If I don't, and I get up to eat something or play some game that keeps me active (or something) and resolve to stay awake, I can make it. I have never had coffee in my life, and never will, so I don't know if it helps or not. Try it if you like. It might work.

I'd be more interested to know WHY you've been trying to.
The only time I ever did was at an annual 24-hour movie festival, and I always felt like The Walking Crap coming out of it.
Or are we talking about something that's "more important" than sleep, by any chance?

You're just at that pivot point in the 20's where Adult will kick in, eight hours of sleep will no longer seem "unfair" or "boring" (as if you're "missing all your friends' nightlife" or "your parents are making you, on a school night"), and you'll start to realize that dang, an electric blanket is one of the greatest inventions of mankind.
And if you were asking me how NOT to stay up for a long time, I'd say "Audiobooks on a 15-minute sleep timer".

Is there a particular reason you want to stay awake for 24 hours?

First of all, get good rest beforehand - your ability to stay awake is going to suffer if you're already tired or sleep deprived.

Second, keep active, and preferably have company - it's harder to fall asleep if you're involved in something that requires your attention.

Third, while energy drinks, coffee and the like do help, they have limits, and some can be harmful if overused or mixed with alcohol (stimulant + depressant = bad idea). Insure you're hydrated and nourished. (Hydration being slightly more important).

There's also a separate possibility - join the military They just LOVE to keep the troops awake by marching 15-20 miles at a stretch.
