do we really need it? there is already an (R) rating which means 18+ so why does a rating which is only increased by a year need to exist? There can't be a big difference between 17+ and 18+. Movies don't do 17+ ratings.

Example of R-17+:

Back in the day the rating system was alot looser on what you could show children pre-PG-13. R was supposed to designate things like horror movies or films with nudity that couldn't be classified as pornographic. Now it really doesnt matter.

I will not disagree with you, but it was a bit beyond R in its rating.

I watch that movie when I was like 15 years old or 13 years old. I still couldn't fap to it because of the Idiocracy.

What higher than R?

NC-17 is considered a harsher rating than R. People can get their kids into an R rated movie if they want. Most theaters will not let parents take their children to an NC-17 movie. However, the rating is even rarer than XXX

Isn't NC-17 trademarked by MPAA, while anyone could apply the X rating to any of their films, even voluntarily?

Also, found this.

True, like I said very few films, if any, get the NC-17 rating. Really I look at the NC-17 rating as the 90s version of the 70s X rating. Most sitcoms these days would rate NC-17 by 90s standards. That is why I pulled out Species, it is the only film that I know of that has an NC-17 rating. Well outside of video store ratings.

Because your 9 year old and 7 year old doǹt need to see jason voorhees pin a perky camp girl to a tree with a machete.

Also it is NC-17....

um excuse me but everyone needs to see Mr. Voohees doing his thing. it teaches valuable lessons on sex and always making sure that you use the buddy system

OT im surprised that a place used NC-17. ive never once seen that in a theater in all my life and always thought that it was a joke made by the movie people.

PG - Parental Guidance Suggested
(Parents urged to give 'parental guidance.' May contain some material parents might not like for their young children.)

PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned
(Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers)

R - Restricted
(Contains some adult material. Sex, Drugs, Violence)

NC-17 - Adults Only
(Clearly adult. Children are not admitted. May contain Sex, Drugs, and Violence but only to a limit)
