That sounds like something someone that would chose confidence over intelligence would say.

And the field at Passchendaele, Vimy Ridge, The beaches of Normandy, The Hills Of Korea, and the Deserts of Afghanistan weren't fought by whiny intellectuals who pissed their pants at the thought of actually doing something mate.

Come on mate, do you have to bring some type of military background into every post? You have to be both relatively smart and confident to join the military, at least here in the U.S. Of course I respect the people who fought for a good cause but really. A lot of your post that catch my eye is you waving some type of military card to seem better than others. That isn't cool. Rather I'm taking the post slightly out of context but still. I'd rather a lighthearted thread stay lighthearted. But it is the internet so we are all entitled to our own opinions and voice. Oh and before I go, Sure some 'whiny intellectual' would be directly on the field, but I bet you he invented the equipment they used or operated behind the scenes to make sure shit actually went right. Everyone has their part.

And I admitted in my very first post a person would need both to be successful. However since I was asked to choose between one or the other I did and went to explain why I think so. And the man who is willing to act for his cause is worth more then all the philosophers and intellectuals in the world.

Not even dying for political reasons will make someone better than anyone else.

I truly pity your lack of understanding if you think those men and women died for as you put it for political reasons. They died because people who think like you failed at their jobs. And that is what makes them better people then you or even me. They did their jobs and smiled about it.

Speak for yourself. I am not a soldier, diplomat or a world leader. nobody like me was responsible for the death of a soldier.

Intelligence. You can give someone confidence, but if they're stupid there's no fixing that.

Depends.

Intelligence is what progresses us as humans. We learn, experiment, design and so on. We need intelligence to propel forward, and individually intelligence would be more important then how you communicate on a social level.

However..

Without the ability to communicate, socialise and inspire, you lack the basics to build on your intelligence.

It's all a matter of balance.

Intelligence. People that have confidence without anything back it up, are typically are walking around saying idiotic things and causing fights.

Why would I want to hang out with confident people? That's just no good at all... How would I ever be able to make them do my bidding if I can't prey on their weak self confidence?

Intelligence will be pretty detrimental too, but I guess I can just deal with going with the lesser of two evils here.

Ideally a balance of both. However I find people who are confident more attractive. Confident people are risk takers. Intelligent people usually go by what is concrete.
