Well the force is kinda just ripped off from Taoism. Like almost everything else in Star Wars its a reference.

Also if anyone starts talking bout Midochlorians im gonna lose my gasket.

It's like megahobbit was begging for it.

I'm in the same camp as BlueOni so that saves me the effort of typing my stance on Jedi/Sith philosophy. That said, in Bioware's Star Wars games I've typically been as big an asshole as possible because it's more entertaining.

The force is a side effect of a infectious illness from a galaxy from long ago and far away. The disease has been eradicated, and there are no more jedi or sith.

Okay strictly talking original trilogy here no EU or prequels etc. The force is portrayed like a lot of eastern religions as a form of enlightenment through asceticism which is something I can appreciate.

I actually agree with the notion that we shouldn't let our emotions make our decisions most of the time, the order were pretty cold hearted if ya ask me.

It's funny really; for all the efforts of countless Star Wars stories, across many different media, it's the Sith not the Jedi that ultimately have a workable ethos. The tenants of the Jedi, a denial of emotions and the outright rejection of ambition ultimately proves to be self-destructive; when one who isolates themselves from society inevitably finds themselves vulnerable and unable to react in the event of a sudden crisis. Conversely, the ideals of the Sith promote the pursuit an individual's passions, to form relationships with other people and strive to achieve great things; so that all society may stand in awe when witnessing the fruits of one's ambition.

Still, the Star Wars EU hasn't been entirely neglectful in regards to the ideas of the Sith:

This is the Book of Sith, a Star Wars EU publication that is written in the style of an in-universe journal. It's essentially an anthology of the philosophical musings of several different Sith such as Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine), Sorzuz Syn and even the enigmatic Darth Plagueis. Grab a copy before Disney decides to finish shredding the EU and take all these older Star Wars books off the market.

Frankly I find it odd even in science fiction the whole religious schism is present. Also I honestly think making the Sith all bat shit crazy and evil an odd plot device. I mean I get it that they have broken away from the Jedi philosophy but this whole cray-cray shit is just stupid. The Sith code isn't about mindless violence. It's about freedom of choice and independence, to not be beholden to anything but you.

At least SWTOR kinda fixed this, giving the Sith faction players plenty of non cray-cray ways of accomplishing their goals. In fact I kind pity the folk playing Jedi in that MMO. They are locked into the obvious do good choices with very little flexibility in their choices.

I think you trekkies are crazy, playing swordfights with glowsticks, or talking in cling-on.

I like how they touch on how the force is a power that surrounds all of us. it makes you feel empowering

I haven't seen the movies but from reading the comments it sound like the jedi are a bunch of stone Buddhas.

Dry humping is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I reach climax.
Through climax, I reach nirvana.
Through nirvana...

I would fail as a jedi.

I would love to be Jar Jar, though.

What is this about

You don't know what a Jedi is or what Star Wars is?

I know star wars. And I don't like it. Jedi? Never heard of it.

Jedi are the once who are the "good guys" in Star wars, like Luke or Anakin while the sith or dark side is like Palpatine, Darth vader and etc.

Jedi Code

Sith code
