While dialogue and action come first for portraying a story you must not underestimate the sound track. Music other than pain and words has the ability to trigger emotion, and can set the scene from just a few bars
for example major chords are up lifting, minor are melancholy (sad) ,and power chords can empower you.

Music if done correctly can portray any number of emotional responses from the auidence of watching it, because without music, background sounds, Films, cartoons, TV series, Anime etc would be boring to todays audience, so music is quite important.

Music can really add to the mood/epicness of an anime/movie/game.
I loved the music of Nujabes in Samurai champloo as it made everything that more dramatic, like if something sad happens or so the music really added to it and made me go all Q_Q.
And then in games like mass effect 2 the music that plays after you destroyed the collector base really made me feel like I was some kind of epic female space Jesus XD.

I think that a good example of a soundtrack is 'Guilty Crown' in anime,

^ I do love Mass Effect 2's Soundtrack, also liked some of 3's. Urm... Metal Gear Solid has also had some decent soundtracks throughout it's lifetime. ^.^

Which ones in particular? I liked the one with Ichigo Vs Byakuya and also Vs Espadas was awesome too, in my opinion.

I liked the early one when they first went to soul society how do you like any other fight music from the big 3?

Hm... I guess from Naruto, I liked the OST playing when it was Naruto battling Kakuzu earlier on in Shippuden,

And I like the music going on in One Piece when there's critical moments or for example the battle of the best which has literally like a full-scale war.

Did you mean that song from Bleach^ XD
it always plays when Ichigo is about to kick ass.
The final fantasy series always has great music too O///O
I mean sephiroth's theme 'One winged angel' for me is the most bad ass character theme song ever and makes Sephiroth even more awesome than he already is X3

^ Well I prefer the number one version done before he fights Aizen but the Espada themes are awesome! (Stark's my fave Espada quite frankly)

^.^ Yes Sephiroth's theme is awesome! I also like Fire Emblem Awakening's OST is also amazing! (Pumped for Fire Emblem Fates! xD) :3

i like the one Ren posted "number 1" the song makes me think back to when i first started watching Bleach i got hooked and went into anime mode within 3 days/nights i watched 134 episodes my dad would come into the room where my computer was and ask "have you had any sleep?" to appease him i would reply "of course dad" :P
That is another great thing about a sound track it reminds us of the thought and feeling we had at the time when we were listening and watching the program, film, or game.
