What are your thoughts on CGI in current films, is it computer animation or is it just a special effect?

I think it works well when done well but when it isn't done well it kinda puts a dampener on the animation effect. Using anime for an example, I found it difficult to get into the Kingdom anime, with the point that it would switch between anime and CGI animation, but this would be irritating for me as I could notice the time lapses in the drawing, whereas if we consider a show like RWBY it seems that with it being fully CGI practically this makes it more of an animation style for the show.

So I believe that this comes down to how the production team intend to utilise the CGI effects and timing/continuity of the style of production.

For me CGI is not based in the real world such as actor/actress, models, or makeup, and all though they can look realistic so can a picture but that is still classed as a painting not a photograph. So I believe that CGI even when combined with live action is the next evolutionary step for animation and has been going for many years and can only get better as computers become more sophisticated plus with Hollywood movies having larger budgets the skies the limit.
