I've noticed for the past couple of years, but everything just stops for a week around christmas/new years.

Given that it's the time to most likely consume anime, with most people having a good amount of free time.. I think it's frankly a terrible thing to do, both for my enjoyment and from a business point of view.

What do you all think?

It's so the production staff can actually have a jolly time. If they cut it close or tried to have 2-3 episodes done ahead of time to cover the holidays any delays would lead to Christmas/New Years crunch time which is just a quadruple downer.

Always keep in mind there are real people behind every anime. We don't remember that often enough.

Plus it's fantastic having a break, there are always shows I want to go back and finish from the year.

As others have mentioned. It's the holidays for those people too. And otherwise. It's not really that different from any other seasonal interregnums. Just a few more days than usual.

So just hang in there. A couple more days to go and there'll be anime to watch once more.

It's a good time to wolf down older anime I hadn't had a chance to. I really l like that the regular shows are on break.

This is actually the first year that I've even noticed the winter hiatus. I'm usually pretty busy myself around the holidays. Plus this year I've been keeping better track of seasonal stuff due to podcasting.
