What do you think are the most overrated anime of all time?
Posted 1/3/16 , edited 1/4/16
I came up with this list in 2 seconds, and wondered if my opinion is shared. Don't get me wrong, I love these anime, but they are way too highly praised. And at least 50% of crunchyroll has the main characters of these shows as their avatar.

3. One Punch Man - Don't get me wrong, One Punch Man is great. Even if you don't enjoy the comedy, everything else is done right, from the soundtrack to the animation. My problem is that people are claiming that One Punch Man is the greatest anime of all time, which it's not. Just getting a few laughs doesn't make it the best anime of all time.

2. Tokyo Ghoul - Another great anime, but is ruined because of the amount of fanboys saying it's the greatest anime ever. It's not. The manga is amazing, I wouldn't mind if the fanboys existed because of that. Tokyo Ghoul's pacing is out of control fast, and there is one spot of character development; which happens in 4 minutes, instead of continually happening throughout the show.

1. Sword Art Online - Self-explanatory. I love SAO, but it is WAY to overrated.

What are yours? (And admit it, 50% or crunchyrollers have kaneki, kirito or saitama as their avi.)

Anything that goes mainstream is overrated because massive amounts of fanboys will tout it like it's the best thing since sliced bread or the second coming of Christ.

Doesn't mean it's a bad anime but it won't live up to the hype.

I couldn't get into SAO at all. It was boring to me.

Even though it's my favorite anime, Shingeki no Kyojin is overrated too.

I agree with SAO, it started off great but after some eps it went downhill...completely overrated for me as well

Tokyo Gull i didn't watch so no comments there

One Punch Man for me was one of the best shows this past year, but i'm not sure of I would consider it one of the best of all time, so in that regard I would also say that its a bit overrated

I liked it to start but it got bad very quickly weird pacing strange plot developments. I think alot of people like it due to gimmicks like the vr aspect and fantasy world.

The beginning was okay to me but then I got bored afterwards. I don't know why it bored me but it did.

Imo Log Horizon did the whole gaming genre better.

Magi is good. Log Horizon has 50 eps and 2 seasons. It's very popular in Japan (the novels at least) so I'd expect a 3rd season at some point. As long as you don't mind the romance bits thrown in you should be fine. It's not like SAO romance at least.

I think I agree with the OP about One Punch Man. Great show. But definitely not the best thing since sliced bread.

*Obligatory SAO mention*

I would say that Attack on Titan is also great show but in hindsight I think the critics had some fair points. it's very good, but it probably didn't deserve the intense, sweltering, inescapable hype it got.

Yeah, you just don't see as many new-fan acolyte worshippers of Evangelion today as you did back in the 00's. Maybe the new movies killed them off. ("You have to watch it as your first anime ever, because it's so dark and mindbending and psychological, and it's not like American cartoons!")

Back then, the Cult of Eva ("Kaii-liiiii!") was one thing the rest of us sane fans had to protect poor innocent new fans just naively asking "what is this 'anime' thing?" from, for their own good. We seem to have wiped a good portion of Eva-itis from our culture, and it's a disease we can eradicate in our lifetime. If only the Japanese could be so lucky.

I mean, be fair, SAO at least had half of one good season.
