I haven't seen One Punch Man. Therefore, I can't comment on it. As for most overrated anime series of all time topic, I'll go with Cowboy Bebop (Love the settings to soundtrack. But, 4 main characters are garbage & fanbase act like elitist), Naruto (like the series alot as well. But, fanbase are out of control, filler fiesta & don't get me started on Mr. Kishinmoto in terms of female characters) & Sword Art Online.

EVANGELION.

Worst goddamn show ever with the worst cast Ever. Especially Shinji f**kin' Ikari.

In terms of what the OP mentioned:

SAO: I really wanted to like this show. I liked the mystery of it and I really liked Asuna....until they fridged her and made Kirito a Gary Stu. Now I realize .hack//sign did it better and even that was a bore of a show.

Tokyo Ghoul: I got thru about four episodes of this...not because I didn't like it any; it was okay. But because the censoring was just...overboard to the point where I couldn't really enjoy it. I do want to watch the rest of it and season two one day though. Storywise, it's something that's right up my alley. Is the Greatest? Nah.

One Punch Man: Okay, I love Saitama and Genos, but greatest show ever? Hell nah. It is better though than the majority of the dreck that aired over this past season however.

Also, Cowboy Bebop: I enjoyed the series but greatest ever? Nope.

"KILL LA KILL"

Don't get me wrong, this Anime is actually pretty good. It kept me watching until the end, & had ALLOT of awesomely executed scenes. However, after the final episode aired, I found myself asking "...Is that it?".

I hadn't watched it until a few months after it had released, but all I could hear about on Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Etc-- was how INCREDIBLE this Anime was. Idk, but to me it felt like just an ok Anime to pass the time. The theme was unique, but it all felt really linear in a way. There were twists here, & there, but nothing that the buildup didn't make me think "Ah, so that's it."

I really did want to absolutely LOVE this Anime, but at most I just "Like" it.

I think a major reason I didn't fall in love with it was that I missed the hype train for it. Say what you will, but I think that watching an Anime one episode a weak with arguably hundreds of thousands of other people feels MUCH more exciting then watching each, & every episode back to back. I'm also of the opinion that a truly great Anime is one that you can re-watch no matter how much time goes by. I don't see myself re-watching Kill La Kill. It's a good anime worth recommending to others, but not an incredible one.

Naruto. Having more padding than plot for over 600 episodes is really nothing to get excited about.
SAO. For reasons already stated in the comments above.

I came up with this list in 2 seconds, and wondered if my opinion is shared. Don't get me wrong, I love these anime, but they are way too highly praised. And at least 50% of crunchyroll has the main characters of these shows as their avatar.

3. One Punch Man - Don't get me wrong, One Punch Man is great. Even if you don't enjoy the comedy, everything else is done right, from the soundtrack to the animation. My problem is that people are claiming that One Punch Man is the greatest anime of all time, which it's not. Just getting a few laughs doesn't make it the best anime of all time.

2. Tokyo Ghoul - Another great anime, but is ruined because of the amount of fanboys saying it's the greatest anime ever. It's not. The manga is amazing, I wouldn't mind if the fanboys existed because of that. Tokyo Ghoul's pacing is out of control fast, and there is one spot of character development; which happens in 4 minutes, instead of continually happening throughout the show.

1. Sword Art Online - Self-explanatory. I love SAO, but it is WAY to overrated.

What are yours? (And admit it, 50% or crunchyrollers have kaneki, kirito or saitama as their avi.)

Yeah, lately i've seen enough of One-Punch Man avatars. So yes, that's one. Other ones:

SAO

Shingeki no Kyojin

Naruto

This is just how it looks like to me.

Dragonball Z, I don't know how you can possibly think there's something more overrated.

I agree. People talked up SAO while it was airing. But all other times the only comments I ever see about it are how overrated it is. Overrated by who exactly? When 100% of comments I see about the show are complaints, I just start to scratch my head a bit at this whole "WORST FANBOYS EVARRRRR" excuse that keeps getting tossed around as the end-all, be-all reason to dislike the series.

On topic, I think that the most overrated anime in the west is probably Cowboy Bebop. It's like. Ok, I get it. You watched Cowboy Bebop years ago on Cartoon Network and it made you into an anime fan. Cool story. But it's really not special. In fact, I've tried to watch it 3 separate times now over the years and always end up dropping it purely out of boredom.

As far as overrated in general, I would say Evangelion. It's probably the douchiest show I've ever watched in my life, and created a truly awful fan base of armchair intellectuals. Seriously, if you ever say that you didn't like it for any reason the most common reponse is "you just didn't get it."

Not just intellectuals, but those fans who believed they had found the "ultimate" anime their first time out, that Eva was the Alpha and Omega of all anime, and that talking about anime on discussion forums means complaining about Shinji, discussing Gendo's strategy, analyzing Asuka's hangups, or pondering the angelic Meaning Of It All.
Well, after all, what else is there in anime to talk about?

Seriously, if you ever say that you didn't like it for any reason the most common reponse is "you just didn't get it."

That pretty much sums it up.
("And the only reason you don't understand our music is because you don't like it!" - The Young Ones )

It was one of the early titles on DVD in the 00's, so everybody had to go out and watch it at the time everyone was first finding out that oo, anime is like, cool and different!
Ohh, this's................different, all right ,and as far as most of the new fans were concerned, that was the sole reason for watching it. AND for shoving in another fan's face just to make a convert, before they said something stupid and mainstream about Pokemon or Sailor Moon.

Nowadays, we have plenty of anime series available, and there's no longer as much reason to subject yourself to nonstop physical and psychological pain, both one's own and the characters'.
We now have enough samples in the last fifteen years to KNOW what snooty-@$$ art-anime looks like, and....this would be one.

SAO has a 4.5 user rating here so in my opinion it's not over rated as i gave it a five
However Attack on Titan has a 4.7 when i gave it a three. It was good but not great.
