I will definitely agree with SAO. That is totally overrated. I wasn't that impressed with it. The actual premise of the show seems flawed.

Tokyo Ghoul and One Punch Man probably are overrated too since there's so much hype over them, but I can't really judge since I haven't watched them.

The real overrated series though have to be the forbidden four surely: Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Dragonball

One Piece

The show is to kiddie for me. From the animation the characters and even the names. I feel like it should be a nickelodeon show. Heck even Avatar isn't that bad

Naruto ,Fairy Tail, Bleach, DBZ are not as bad as One Piece. I just don't get the hype. Ive tried everything to try and like the show

Whenever it comes to a show or any sort of entertainment whatsoever, I do not believe there is a "Greatest ever" in the category. A show can be good or great, but not greatest due to human opinion being a thing and whatnot.

That being said, Tokyo Ghoul is something i've been dealing with for a while now. I watched the Anime when it came out, then read it, but wasn't impressed by any of it. It might not be a bad series, but it wasn't for me.

For over a decade you couldn't go anywhere trying to discuss anything other than NGE without the rabid fanbase popping up declaring how much more superiour the show was and they for liking it. I'm so glad it has died down over the last few years and no other shows fanbase came even close to being so obnoxious. Any other fanbase, I'm laughing at you for not coming even close to NGE fanboys.

It was one of the early titles on DVD in the 00's, so everybody had to go out and watch it at the time everyone was first finding out that oo, anime is like, cool and different!
Ohh, this's................different, all right ,and as far as most of the new fans were concerned, that was the sole reason for watching it. AND for shoving in another fan's face just to make a convert, before they said something stupid and mainstream about Pokemon or Sailor Moon.

Nowadays, we have plenty of anime series available, and there's no longer as much reason to subject yourself to nonstop physical and psychological pain, both one's own and the characters'.
We now have enough samples in the last fifteen years to KNOW what snooty-@$$ art-anime looks like, and....this would be one.

Although with the EVA context removed, this exact same description could also be applied to Princess Mononoke.

("Shuddup, man!...That was the first anime I ever saw, and my favorite Studio Ghibli right next to Howl's Moving Castle! It's got this cool, spiritual message about man and nature!" )

Fate Stay Night Unlimited Budget Works was a fantastic spectacle of animation by Ufotable before God Eater some how crashed and burned in production. The problem was the story was very average compared to Fate Zero which did he grail war concept better. Fate Zero set the bar for Fate Stay Night too high and it could not reach it.

Cowboy Bebop and One Punch Man are the most overrated for me. Cowboy Bebop can be compared to that of Star Wars in the sense that it introduced a lot of people into a genre they never experienced before. So, I think Cowboy Bebop holds a special place in people's heart as that gateway anime which brought them into a prominent medium. I ended up not liking Cowboy Bebop at all when I watched it last year and found it really difficult to finish. However, despite it being a boring series, I thought the ending to the series was very well done. As for One Punch Man, I think people are just overreacting to the show. They can claim how "epic" or "hype" it is, but in reality, it's hard to justify that hyperbole when there is only about two minutes of action in each episode. A honorable mention for me is also Hunter X Hunter. It was a solid show, but the Greed Island and Chimera Ant arcs were far too long and dragged the show down with it.

Hype = Popularity = Salt

The amount of hype for a show is equal to its popularity which is also equal to the amount of salt it shall receive. (Ex. Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, SAO, etc.) Lots of people will back up these shows saying its GOAT, and lots of people will disagree that it's not GOAT, but rather good but you know it's not mind blowing.

As for me, it's usually the big shounens. People should just watch more anime. Expand your genres people

Exactly how much of it have you watched? I can understand not liking the wackiness, but I wouldn't call it kiddie.

The most hyped series that I didn't like all that much would be Cowboy Bebop. I had to make myself finish it because it was boring.

I started watching anime in 2013 so I wasn't around for the SAO hype but I would probably agree with that being overrated (even though I enjoyed SAO from what people say of the hype it was probably way too much).

Attack on Titan for me. I had friends always talking about it when it came out and everyone was getting into it. They even wore graphic shirts and had messenger bags.

I would also have to say Tokyo Ghoul. Watched a few episodes and never got back to it. I don't have a legitimate reason, other than it not getting my attention.
